    Bus Station by mullering :deal

Mercedes could obviously hit a bit, he dug in even if he had little natural dig.

    Did you like the fight?

Currently uploading Mercedes defeating Freddy Castillo for the WBC title (lineal) at Fly :good

Tomorrow will be Mamby Vs Viruet, very interesting watch that IMO, Mamby comes out bombing :bbb

And then a brilliant display of in-fighting between the always fun Gaspar Ortega and the tough contender Charley Scott. The last round is ridiculous :rofl

If he doesn't stop Pone he might not get the decision;)

    Although that's highly unlikely:ko

By the way, how tall was Borkhorsor?

Pone was very tall for a flyweight.

It was ok but I liked featherfisted Pone better.

    Don't know why really:lol:

    Flea Man,,,,,,,,

I remember that bout between German 'GT' Torres vs. Elionico 'Nico' Mercedes

1984 at The Olympic in Los Angeles - one of those Thursday Night bouts.

It wasn't even the 'Main' undercard bout - it was a 10-Round Preliminary Bout.

By the 'physical looks and strength' - I thought German Torres 44-6-1 (35 KO's) was going to seriously
hurt 'Nico' Mercedes 'early and often',,,,,,,,,, because 'Nico' Mercedes was one of those fighters who
    took many head shots 'flush'.

Not that anyone would know, but Elionico Mercedes (Dominican Republic)
was a highly regarded 'Amateur Light Flyweight' back in 1975/1976.

And he was expected to go far in the 1976 Olympics at -48 kg. (Light Flyweight),
but he got a bad draw, and was clocked by a 'super-tough Russian' (RSC 1) in the First Round of the Tournament.

Looking up his 'pro record',,,,,,, the former WBC Flyweight Champion only had '5' Knock-outs on his 20-7-2 record,
going into the bout with German Torres.

As for his oppo', fought an undefeated Joey Olivo just two or three fights into his career!

    Flea Man,,,,,,,,

    As per box/rec,,,,,,

Elionico Mercedes was 11-6-2 (3 KO's) prior to defeating Freddie Castillo for
the WBC Flyweight Title on November 6, 1982 at The Olympic.

But my Boxeo Guide from back then, states he was 17-6-2 (5 KO's), and was
    the #7 WBC Flyweight.

    Looks like another '6' wins and '2' Knock-outs for the 5' 5" 'Skinny Nico' in {1979/1980}

    From 1/25/80 thru 11/5/82, Elionico Mercedes went 11-1-2 (4 KO's) - his only loss a 'DQ' to
    the talented Candido Tellez.

Ortega was never in a bad fight.

At least in the fights i've seen with him.

Specially like his fights with Paret,Floro Fernandez,Basilio,Griffith 2,C.Scott.

Would have loved to have see him against Jose Stable that would have been a war.

And to see his full fights with Gavilan,Muniz,Thompson,DeMarco but theres probably no footage of those fights.

Ha! Nice way of describing 'em ;-) I used to be tiny, like Messi, also known as 'Flea' hence being given the name...might be an appropriate moniker for some of the little guys as well :D

El Bujia and Addie are top notch on them as well...sadly rarely see 'em post nowadays.

Hopefully lora, scartissue, sweet_scientist, AlFrancis will chip in at some point as well :good

Good post, thanks (Stable was also a class operator)

I've certainly got more time for Ortega's fights than Gatti's ;-) I'll get round to the Scott footage at the weekend.

I believe Addie and El Bujia both got perma-banned for posting porn when half of the ESB lounge posters went ape **** with it. Garrus got dismissed too.
