Foreman ,Coetzee might wobble George with a bionic right cross, but after a few rounds, Foreman's artillery would wear the South African down for a stoppage ,say 6-7 rounds.
Some dangerous punching George would have to get past. Coetzee was starting to put together better combo's under Jackie McCoy but Gerrie could be countered...The Coetzee of the Dokes fight was one of the best versions of him. He was patient and used the right hand as well as the hook. Foreman had improved tecnique and better defensive skills during the comeback but Coetzee was no Michael Moorer, he was a more dangerous fighter. I could see Foreman getting past the rough spots to prevail but I could also see him getting hurt early and dropped and would not be extremly suprised to see it go the other way.
The prime Coetzee would have beaten the 42 year old Foreman. I say Coetzee is too fast and accurate with his punches and wins a decision. Gerrie would also have rocked Foreman sometimes with heavy right hands. A prime Foreman, however, would have blown Coetzee away quickly. The 1970s version of George was awesome.
Old man KO's him late. Coetzee didn't quite have the mobility that Morrison found and executed for one fight. Nor did he often demonstrate the requisite durability.
Coetzee's biggest flaw was his lack of confidence. Foreman NEVER suffered from this malady, on the other hand, and would have been a huge undertaking for the South African, who did have a better chin and more skills than, say Gerry Cooney, and who knows, maybe with his head screwed on tight, could cop a Tommy Morrison-style game plan and just go for a points win...not getting carried away with that "bionic right". My guess is that the young Foreman would stop him in 5 or less, and the old, latter day Foreman would probably cruise to a decision victory.
The big George that fought Holyfield was good. Real good, without a doubt his best comeback fight. Foreman wasn't ever the same after that brawl, which we saw when he couldn't track down guys like Morrison. I like the Foreman that fought Holy to come on late and ultimately take out Coatzee when he starts to unravel. Gerrie would definitely mess up George's face though with his "Bionic" right hand.
Gerrie was a fine boxer who idolized Ali, but his reputation changed to that of a latter day Ingo when he sparked Spinks. He was absolutely capable of replicating Morrison's execution against Foreman, and certainly would have once George started shoving him back.
Foreman kills Coetzee in that time frame scenario....... Foreman is NO Michael Dopes, er, Dokes.........:scaredas: MR.BILL
