    I remember this one! This was the worst fight I have ever seen. They stood in front of each other, exchanging Barkley's hook for Coetzee's right until Jerry fell over, more from exhaustion than anything.

    As I recall it.

    Yes..... The fight (Barkley-Coetzee) was sloppy, but I found it exciting in a way.... Plus, for being on a shitty outlet like ESPN, I really had no room to whine......... ESPN sucks bad...........

    :yep:yep Yes I was at this fight!! I thought it was entertaining and Coetzee also showed flashes of his Prime against him early in the fight. It was at the Hollywood Paladium and a comebacking Palomino knocked out Arredondo on that card,I also met Chicanito and Gabriel Ruelas at that fight they were both champs at the time and there was talk of those 2 fighting.

    Quite a strange feeling seeing Iran Barkley, who got beaten by a f*ckin´ lightweight beating a former top heavyweight, isn´t it?

    I wonder if Iran Barkley had retired for good after getting the TKO win over Gerald Coetzee in the late 1990s, would the voters have been kind to him and already have voted him into the IBHOF? In my book, Barkley deserves induction due to his THREE different division world titles that feature two wins over Tommy Hearns..........

    BUT! Iran Barkley hung on way too long fighting bums and stiff and losing many of them ugly fights in the end...... That is what killed him with the voters..... Finishing up ugly is a terrible thing.....

    Jesus Bill, you must have every single obscure fight that ever took place from 1978-1999.

    I saw the fight... it was terrible. Not for the lack of action, but because both guys were geezers at that point and had no business being in the ring. It was for something called the World Boxing Board heavyweight title... Barkley looked bloated, completely out of shape - Coetzee looked OK, considering his age and the weight he carried... Both guys fought hard, but in the end, it was Barkley who won it... TKO victory after Coetzee failed to fire punches for about 20 seconds.

    A lot of them, anyway... BUT! I've been a hater of ESPN since the late 80s..... ESPN at one time signed decent fighters / fights in the early going....... However, over the last 20 yrs, ESPN has just gone to hell with all the "Johnny Payday vs. Joe Polesmoker" fights outta Kentucky in a barn on some farmers land........ I hate that Friday night crap....

    YES! Coetzee carried 253 much better than Barkley carried 227 pounds at the time.... Coetzee looked good for a dude of 42 yrs of age, but Barkley was bloated and grizzled at a mere age 37...... Freaky how Barkley was the winner by TKO........

    It's the truth........... ESPN is just lousy these days and nights.....:deal

    The last ESPN card that I taped was "Lance Whitaker vs. Jason Estrada" back in 2007 or '08..... And I was pulling for Whitaker....... That was a mistake...... Whitaker was utterly clueless against Estrada....... ARGH!
    :patsch:shock::twisted:
