I didn't say he was bad but it's fairly obvious he had no real boxing schooling. He fought on brawling instincts and was actually pretty good at landing the right hand. He nailed Dempsey in the very first second of the fight and sent him to a blind rage, which led to Firpo taking a beating due to his lack of defense against Dempsey's onslaught. Firpo was a brawler though and landed some big right hands on a reckless Dempsey. Dempsey would have beaten him with less effort had he fought him the way he fought Jess Willard for example, giving more respect to his power and looking for the chance to land the punches, instead of actively seeking a KO with each punch he threw while abandoning any type of defense.
GREATA......... It's bloody good to see a friend over on this forum, I've missed you on my main forum lately, you know me under another well known identity over there. I am also a fan of your amazing contributions to boxing, and you are the fairest non-partisan poster of them all........ long may you reign Caesar........... McG.
Firpo suckered Brennan onto an "Angel" bomb, it's brutal and on film, and Bill Brennan was out,...... stone cold......... No Gene Tunney, slightly chaotic, hittable but a huge puncher and quite dangerous, it only takes one single mistake and there are many who'd become Luis supper..................................yours truly, McG.
