I've never seen it unfortunately. I think the Tate fight pretty much showed us Knoetze's limitations. For me he would never be more than a fringe contender owing to a swiss cheese defense and (again) lousy stamina.
    Good puncher though.

Maybe Holmes' vulnerability to the right hand is a little bit over played. Probably more so than Ali, but we've all seen Larry fight, we can make our own opinions on it. Larry has been dropped by a few of them, which shows he was not perfect and could be caught cleanly, so basically the same as any other boxer that's ever lived.

One thing I will say though is that the straight right is probably the most natural counter punch for an opponents jab, so I think there is an element of truth to it and I think we can infer that some fighters with good/very good straight rights can pose problems for him, not necessarily best him though. Holmes is a certified great heavyweight and the toughest of cookies, I wouldn't expect Coetzee to crack him.

I thought 6-3 and 1 even. But Gerrie had that knockdown from his lefthook in the 4th. Good tough fight between the rivals and the thing is both of them agreed to the fight that early in their careers. A big important fight at the time.

But going in, Knoetze had 1 punched the other guy in the mix in Schutte. I did not think anyone was capable of doing that to that guy. He put him in a heap. Coetzee had a tougher time with Mike for sure. But a lot on the line and the winner goes on to bigger things and the loser takes a big step back. We sure don't get many prospects like that fighting each other & proof it was a good fight was a split decision. So often w/ the heavies we the fans get mismatches. Not too many back and forths from contemporaries fighting each other.

I was a Bruno fan but I was embarrassed how rude everyone was toward Gerrie at that press conference. Didn't Bruno joke that he would have a helicopter by the time he was Coetzees age?

:good Yes he did, but Gerrie handled everything in a professional manner, it did seem like water off a ducks back to him. He probably couldn't understand half of it anyway.

The man went 48 and 0, was only stopped by a prime Tyson. To say he was vulnerable like a journeyman is over the top.

great record but many could have gone 48-0 being as selective as he and King were, never unified, never rematched a tough fight, and avoided 6 major contenders in his era.....he avoided the styles that could have been an issue for him. Homes was an excellent fighter but points off and when he lost the title to the least of the dangers, Spinks 1st fight as a heavyweight and had to fight the best he was sparked by Tyson. By the way Tyson did give us a good measuring stick of the era with his Berbick,Tubbs,Boneclutcher,Biggs,M.Spinks fights

You say he was drugged out to serve your case but Dokes looked great in the fight and in better form than the Weaver fights. Coetzee KO'd Leon Spinks in 1 rd but instead of Holmes fighting Coetzee he fought Leon 2 years later. Coetzee also fought a draw with the other fighter Holmes feared Pinklon Thomas. Stop wearing rose-colored glasses with Larry, he gave up a title not to fight Greg Page....why?

Holmes was more fundamentally sound than many fighters of the era but He was dropped and hurt badly by an often beaten Shavers (stamina and finishing skill issues) and was dropped badly by a 22 fight Snipes (who was dropped 2X by Coetzee in his fight before Holmes) Holmes knew Coetzee was robbed and deserved the title shot before Snipes but he and King chose Snipes.

Like I said before a talented fighter can lose to a less talented fighter if there strengths fit well into the better fighters weakness.
