Cooney was very close to being an elite fighter.

Cooney had excellent potential, squandered by his inactivity. Great puncher with a strong attack method in close. My favorite of the white hopes, for sure.

He said he never really thought of being "A white hope" though he was deemed as one. Great power and produced some exciting fights so it's hard to not lrespect him as a fighter.

There was potential to be an elite heavyweight. Head issues doomed that potential.

Good stuff, Cooney could really bang.. If he could have came along in another era he might have been champion..

So much potential and as many have stated too many mental issues. I liked what I saw with Cooney after Gil Clancy trained him for the fight with Foreman. More jabs, more movement.

good video. Cooney never reached his full potential. Soft matchmaking and inactivity did not allow him to get rounds and develop as a fighter. I always wonder what his career would have been like with a different trainer and managers. He never developed his right hand and he never was taught how to properly clinch when hurt. Cooney gets a bad wrap because of the Holmes fight but he had not fought in 13 months and they put him in with an ATG Heavyweight in the Las Vegas heat outside? Idiotic.
