Does Cooney have a resume that stacks up to Fulton's? Langford, Flynn, Morris, Pelkey, Gunboat Smith, John Lester Johnson... I think not. Fulton KO6.
You dont want a lot of money riding on this, but Fulton was much more proven at the top level and for much longer. Based on the limited information we have, we would have to favour Fulton.
Fulton was a big man too. Fought in a lot of fights and against some tough guys. He was a bit chiny though, so a huge Cooney left hook or uppercut might have done him in, but Iwouldn't bet money on anything.
Fulton could be taken by anybody with a big punch, but he also beat some big punchers, and often got off the deck to win. This makes it an intersting fight.
Hate to be the one who says it, but Fulton couldn't fight. Boxing evolved a lot from 1920 to 1980. His style of fighting in 1920 would get him killed vs Cooney.
Not really. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hrAs0Tyo5g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7B3d1PtPUIc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETDzw3cv_YA The differences are more cosmetic than anything else. Even Gans, twenty years earlier, looks reasonably "modern".
And I'd pick Sam Langford to literally smash the ****ing face off any active middleweight or super-middleweight.
