What happen s if Cooney after losing to Holmes, meets Tex Cobb, himself just lost a decision to Larry??
12 rounds non title fight, how's Cooney deal with the crazy guy in front of him, and can Tex survive the distance?

Cooney was deflated after the loss to Holmes. His confidence was shattered. That Cooney would've lost. A prime Cooney would've decisively defeated Cobb. I see no reason not to favor him.

Exactly what I was thinking when I saw this topic. Cooney on his form beats Cobb, but not the version of him after the Holmes loss.

Same as what I was thinking Swag. The Cooney that ripped into Norton id say definitely beats him.
But post Holmes, soon as he sees Cobb still coming forward.. Well who knows how he reacts.

He'd win regardless if he wasn't completely motivated imo

Cooney KOes him with a frightening hook to the liver.
    Cobbs chin is too resistant.

Cobbs eats his teeth after a Cooney left hook. Then procedes to break his will and beat Cooney.

    Cobb in 10

Historic footnote: Cooney was slated to fight Earnie Shavers on the Hearns-Cuevas undercard and pulled out with an injury. Cobb subbed in to stop the Acorn.

This was between Cooney’s win over Jimmy Young and his destruction of Ken Norton.

Gotta favor any decent version of Cooney. His length and jab puts him in the box seat from the start.

Cooney going into the Holmes fight, or the version that actually fought Larry, out speeds and out hits Cobb even on Randy's best night.
Another book full of priceless quotes follows.

Any version of Cooney apart from the ring rusted alcoholic version that fought Spinks beats Cobb. Cobb took it well on the chin but Cooney was a wicked body puncher and Tex didn't have much of a defense.

Gerry Cooney was created by the media just for television, padding his record with ancient has been's like Ken Norton and Jimmy Young, he even used an injury to back out of a fight against power punching Earnie Shavers as pointed out by a talented poster. Randall Tex Cobb went 15 rounds with then WBC Heavyweight Champion Larry Holmes on a HBO televised title bout on Nov 26 1982. The fight itself was very one sided, but nonetheless, Cobb went the distance, Cooney did not against Holmes. Tex is the more durable of the two, and has faced fighters near his own age. I think that the fight goes the distance with Cooney, only to inflict a beating on Gerry. Cobb by a unanimous decision on a very self doubting Gerry Cooney.

This is tough to pick. Both tolerable fighters, Cooney more skilled and stronger but Cobb tougher. Makes it a toss-up. I think this could be a mildly entertaining match but could be horribly sloppy I don't wanna even think about it.

You do realize Cooney poleaxed both Ken Norton and Eddie Gregg within close proximity to them beating Cobb. I also don’t see the relevance of Cooney not going the distance with Holmes when he clearly won more rounds than Cobb and actually hurt Larry. Did Gerry ever lose to someone like Dee Colier ?

In an answer to your question, Gerry was too afraid to fight anyone near his own age, afraid to lose his chance to fight Larry Holmes, that makes him a made for television tomato can. He should have met a prime Tim Witherspoon, Pinklon Thomas, or a Greg Page. Instead he did pad his record on fighting ancient relics like Ken Norton and Jimmy Young. Adult Protective Services should have been notified. Gerry is better suited for basketball
