Joshua knockout 7 rounds, easy fight. Too skilled, big, powerful. Both have suspect chins but Joshua is way better technically and hits harder and has beaten better fights.
Likely AJ. But he did not hit harder, Foreman named Cooney as one of the 3 hardest punchers he ever faced-& Cooney was washed up then.
Man the AJ hate is strong around here. Cooney fought a good fight against Holmes but he lost. He also NEVER beat a prime top HW and was KOd by every top HW he fought including Michael Spinks who wasn’t a true HW. He beat the ghost of Norton and Ron Lyle when they were totally shot. Those are his two biggest scalps and they were shadows of their former selves. I liked watching Cooney but prime Joshua (modern day) knocks him out. Cooney looked good against shot opposition but couldn’t beat a prime top HW. He gave the fans some excitement and I remember winning a bunch of cash when he fought Holmes. My friends bought the hype and it cost them some $$$ because I bet them all. Prime Larry Holmes beats Joshua, but Cooney would not stand a chance.
Cooney was decent HW. AJ was the number 1 HW untill an exceptional boxer in Usyk (who will go down as ATG HW) beat him. Cooney best wins were against past it versions of Norton and Lyle and that's it. Whilst AJ beat Wlad, Povetkin, Parker, Whyte, Ruiz and Puelv .
The Holmes version of Cooney (absolute prime, absolutely motivated) would ask Joshua questions that Joshua may not be able to satisfactorily answer.
What's it matter who AJ beat or Quarry beat that is so much better. People always try to post that stuff....as id being #1 in 1970 was equal to being #1 in 2021. Do posters think it's resume v resume, and the better resume wins?? Cooney's size and power would allow him to stay in there, as AJ would be cautious as well. AJ might have beaten better ranked opponents, but Cooney fought better boxers. Toss up with these guys, while leaning towards Cooney a tad.
