Going from memory the main event was Kallie Knoezee vs Bill Sharkey broadcast on CBS. Cooney vs Lopez was shortened to 8 rounds to accommodate matters. It was a good dig down deep win for Gerry. I'd like to think its in the CBS vault somewhere.
Thanks. I couldn't find it anywhere. And even news publications on the subject are rare. Apparently, some protesters against aparthied came into the arena while Cooney and Lopez were still fighting, trying to stop the Knoetzee - Sharkey fight, which momentarily disrupted the action around the 6th round, but that's just from what I've been told and not read nor seen.
Fight went down in Miami. Hank Kaplan had a boxing publication at that time. I'll bet they have it at the Brooklyn College Archives.
