Both in their primes, how does this battle of the glass cannons go down? I think this one would have been fun as heck!
Yikes. Can’t see this one lasting long at all no matter who wins. I voted for Cooney but only narrowly. Both men hit extremely hard and neither were exceptionally durable. Hide looked the better physical specimen and was more mobile but Cooney had the height and reach. I’m guessing whoever wins this does inside of maybe five rounds
I have not exactly been a friend to either man in previous threads. However I have to say that Cooney got closer to the title. He is probably all wrong for Hide.
Herbie could really punch, but so could Cooney. I’m leaning Gerry by KO here, especially with that wrecking-ball left hook to the body doing damage to set up the one to the head. One thing I remember is Hide almost hyperventilating against Bowe, another big, imposing specimen. It’s like he completely gassed just on Riddick’s sheer size and stature being too much for him to take. I think there would be a degree of that here, too.
I always rooted for Hide,,, he was a nutter.. always found himself doing something crazy.. wish he could have stayed at 200 his whole career... think he would have been highly successful as a long time cruiserweight
Cooney would get him, but it wouldn't be a walk in the park. Might get kind of sloppy, actually. It might last 6, at the outside.
I voted Cooney, but the thought of Hide's right hand on Cooney's chin would make me leery about betting $$$ on this one. Could see Cooney bludgeoning him with the left hand and stopping him inside of 6.
Does anybody see Cooney having trouble with Hide’s speed, or would it most likely not even come into play as Cooney would be all over Hide from the opening bell?
Similar in a way to Hides fight against Bowe imo. Perhaps Hide winning the first early rounds, having success with speed, rattling him. But Cooney s killer hooks and weight and size advantage tells on Hide, and Eventually he's hurt and dropped.
I love a gamble but I wouldn’t bet too much on the winner of this fight. I’d bet my house on it ending in a KO though. Cooney in his 20s and at his best KO’d almost everybody in front of him except prime Larry…not that Gerry’s resume was great, though he had a few tough old buggers from the 70s on his KO list. Herbie was a hard, hard hitter and was as quick as a whip. When this guy clicked it was wondrous to watch. But he could be so vulnerable to a smack on the jaw! And Cooney was one of the best when it came to smacking jawbones. Today I’d go for Cooney by KO. But tomorrow I might go for Hide by KO. I’ll see how I feel…
