Toney from the Holyfield fight beats any Cooney. If you watch the Young fight, you can see Cooney having plenty of issues with featherfisted Young, but the cut saved him from having to battle through serious adversity. And he lost to Holmes because Holmes was resilient, just like Toney.

Replace that Young with a Toney who didn’t mind getting hit and was there to go to war and Cooney would fold. Cooney didn’t move his head. He’d get countered to death.

If it’s Cooney from the Spinks fight against one of the fatter, sloppier versions of Toney, there’s not really any reason why Cooney couldn’t stumble his was to a draw or narrow points win.

I think i'd go with your picks. They seem likely to me.

    1. Cooney
    2. Toney

James really was not a heavyweight. His best weight would have been 175 in my opinion.

A properly trained & motivated Cooney should win. Everybody points to the Cooney vs Young fight as a great win for Cooney but Young was doing great in that fight until the blood blinded him.
