Would Cooney blow out a "Prime" Kenny Norton?

becuz Kenny was too slow on his feet. cooney was slow also but his left hook im betting will cause kenny to freeze when he starts getting hit with it and Gerry was pretty good at finishing

Cooney would still knock him out. I give Kenny pretty much no chance.

It may very well last longer than 54 seconds, but I think Cooney still gets him early. Ken was the better fighter of course, but there were quite a few men who Norton just didn't match up well with stylistically, and Gerry was one of them..

As a Norton fan, I think fair to point out that Norton had the misfortune of fighting some of histories best punchers, with some of the matches taking place when he was out of his prime.

I think Holmes and Ali were solid punchers. So was Quarry. Norton was not floored in any of these fights.

With Norton, I think some guys just intimidated him a bit. I don't think Conney was an intimidating person. Gerry was rather shy.

At their best, I pick Norton via late round TKO. Cooney didn't take the best shot either, had less skills, and questionable stamina / mental focus. While it coudl go wither way, I think Norton lands the key punches more often than cooney would.

I gotta agree that sometimes there is excessive talking about Norton having a suspected chin. Yep, he got bombed by Foreman, but Foreman was one of the heaviest hitters ever and in his prime, he would have floored pretty much anybody.

Not saying that Norton was made of granite, but I think that he was pretty capable of taking blows and keep going.

I think that in a Conney-Prime Norton fight, the odss are matched.

You might have hit on something there.

Norton was not stopped in any of his three fights against Ali.

How many people have gone three two or even one 15 rounder against him without getting KOd or TKOd?

I think Cooney would have won no matter which Norton he fought. Kenny just didn't match up well against big punchers.

Cooney would have done the same but Norton probably would have lasted longer. Also, I think Foreman could have KO'd Norton in the first round of their bout, but George was taking it easy in the first round.

In almost every thread matching Norton w/ a puncher the overwhelming consensus will probably be to pick the puncher

Wrong fight for Norton, who in all honesty never beat a puncher...I know Quarry but Quarry was totally shot and not a true measure of himself. Cooney gets to Ken early 1-5

Another vote here for Cooney. Wrong style matchup even in Norton's prime. He lasts a few more rounds but eventually Cooney catches up with him.

Cross arm defense, and going backwards against a big, tall left hooker with huge power does not serve Norton well.

    Cooney in 3 rds.

There's a difference between being able to ship a lot of accumulative punishment and surviving hard, concussive shots. Frazier also went 40 rounds with Ali without going down, but was annihilated by Foreman (like Norton but not as easy), down against Bonavena, etc.

Cooney by TKO within 6 rounds.
