At first glance Cooney should be able to blow out the much smaller Marvis. Just too big of a puncher, probably. but then you look at how marvis managed to defeat guys like smith, Bugner, Ribalta, and Tillis, as well as Tony Tubbs in the amatuer which of course demonstrates some skills.

How does this fight pan out?

I think Cooney would take the initiative early (where guys like Bonecrusher didn't) and get him out of there via left hook.

Poor Marvis is a bit under rated today because of the devastating losses to Tyson and Holmes though and could box a bit. He would have a shot.

Assuming we're talking about a peak Cooney, I can't see Marvis surviving more than a few rounds. Marvis didn't stand up well to big punchers who could connect (forget about Bonecrusher; Marvis was able to slip his shots all night). I don't think Marvis would have been able to prevent Cooney from scoring with his aggressive, powerful left jab and devastating hooks.

Cooney's left jab is the key here; at his peak, he threw this punch persistently, and with authority. Marvis wouldn't be able to get past the jab, and he'd take brutal left hooks to the body. Remember: Marvis was small, and he didn't take a punch very well.

Bugner and Broad didn't have Cooney's aggression and firepower. Thus, those fights don't tell us much about how Marvis would fare against Gerry.

Tyson and Holmes had speed Gerry lacked. Marvis was comfortable taking on huge heavyweights like Banjo, Bugner, Broad, Smith and Ribalta. He had underrated power, and Cooney couldn't take it to the temple all that well. Also unlike Gerry, Marvis could get up to win.

If Marvis boxed Cooney like he did Broad, I like him to take a decision.

Well it seems there are split thoughts with this one I figure cooney blows him out early but there's a chance for a Frazier decision

Cooney would stop him in 2 or 3 rounds. Cooney was a little more versatile than Bonecrusher in landing his left hook..

Cooney would force MFrazier to the ropes.

See Norton - Cooney for the results.

Frazier could maybe out-box Cooney over 10 rds based on his desire and energy, however, if Cooney gets off with the hook like he'd need to, he'd stop Frazier....

Marvis has a chance to outbox Cooney, as he did with Bonecrusher...

However, i expect Cooney to start fast & blast him out early.

As limited as I consider Cooney to have been,he'd have had no problem beating Marvis Frazier.

I think Cooney would catch up to him and stop him.

Certainly if Cooney couldn't get the job done within four rounds, that's a bad sign for him. In this case, Marvis would be establishing his superior boxing skills and speed, and would go on to win by decision or later round stoppage. But I doubt that a peak, in-shape Cooney would fail to end this fight within four rounds.

Let's not forget that many people feel Bonecrusher was robbed against Marvis. He put Frazier down twice but lost the decision.

It's hard for me to see Marvis winning. I think Cooney blows him away.
