both were "White hopes" during the early 80´s. what if they had fought?? cooney the irresistable force vs tex the immovable object. usually i´d go for the immovable object…...but this time i pick the force. cooney was a far superior Talent. he´d win by UD.
Cooney should win this. He should rack em up and get a decision win .The only way he loses is if Cooney blows himself out trying to stop TeX with his Rock jaw.But i believe he'll still be around to pick up a decision .
I tend to think Cooney would wreck Tex....the size, strength, power and overall ability would get Tex hurt....Cooney would not hit him like Shavers did head on rights with Tex covering up and bracing for them Cooney would spin and turn fighters and slammed two handed hooks, rib cracking body shots and uppercuts with maybe greater force....
Yea, but Tex wouldn't freeze after being hit, he would keep coming throughing his own shots. I can't pick a winner in this, just massive pain.
Gerry's punches will bust him up or cause tons of swelling on those eyes. tko7 They were supposed to meet at one time but the bout never happened, kind of like the Weaver--Cobb fight.
I think Cooney would stop Cobb. Cobb's jaw could take Cooney's punches, but Cooney loved hitting a man in the body, that would be Tex's downfall.
The Cooney hooks makes chopped liver of Tex and wins in 1 rd. But afterthe fight, Cobb out snorts Cooney 2 pounds to 1 and drinks 5 beers for every 2 Cooney drinks. They end up in a barroom blitz and being free to use his feet as well as hands, mighty Tex KOs Cooney then pulls a "Deliverance" and has Gerry squealing like a piggy. It was not the first time though. Because as anyone on Long Island can tell you; nobody squeals like Gerry Cooney.
Apart from standing up to Holmes for 15 rounds, what other fights showed that Cobb had an outstanding chin?
