Cooney leads early, scoring with huge uppercuts in the 1st 2 or 3 rounds, might score a knockdown. This wakes the Rock up. The two slug toe-to-toe for 2 or 3 rounds. Cooney tires and Marciano surges. Around round 7 I think, Marciano goes in for the finish and wins a TKO. This would be a blood bath.
I think that this kind of fight is up Gerry Cooney's alley, he is fighting an older fighter that he feels the chance of winning are greater. Gerry though a heavy handed fighter has very severe balance issues. Rocky Marciano ducks under his right hands as he fights out of a crouch. Cooney also does not have the stamina that Marciano possesses in his arsenal. Rocky would beat him about the arms and exposed ribs causing pulmonary issues. Rocky ends the affair in the ninth round with Gerry tripping all over himself to avoid the menacing onslaught, the referee stops it.
Fighting out of a crouch, Marciano still has to advance forward to get inside Cooney long reach leaving him vulnerable to Cooney rib breaking left hook to the body. Cooney loves teeing off on a target and Marciano will feel body punches like he’s never felt before. Rocky’s corner pulls him out of the fight in between rounds after Rocky has several ribs broken. Could be a different story though if Marciano can survive the dangerous first 4 rounds or so.
Cooney didn’t know how to fight tall in fact he usually would lean down which would play right into Marciano’s hands. Cooney also never learned how to properly clinch or hold when hurt. Marciano stops him at some point.
Great fight, Cooney, way bigger, quicker hands and lethal power. Rocky, Much more conditioned, Lethal power, much more durable. I think Gerry takes an early lead using his left hand an uppercutting away at the crouching Rock, but around the 6th round Rockys pace and body work start to get to cooney, I think after early trouble, maybe even a knockdown, the rocks pace punching power and body work overwhelms Gerry and stops him late in the fight
IDK, was Rock a slow starter? If so, he's in trouble. If he can takes Cooney's shots for 7rds, I think he knocks gerry out. I think Cooney would ko Rock early though
Well those two were better boxers than Cooney and we all know what happened to them after that. Cooney won't get up when Suzie Q connects and we all know hoe much Cooney is durable....
