Cooney wins this easily. The ref. might stop the beating by the eighth. If the ref doesn't stop it, Cooney wins on wide decision.
I don't see Cooney having a problem with Savers.

Many folks think Cooney could've beaten dudes like "Cobb and Shavers" back in the early 1980s, but the fact is, team Cooney kept their boy sidelined and inactive to secure that huge payday against Lawrence Holmes in the summer of '82...... I am curious to see what people think of Cooney's chances had he fought Mike Weaver in 1982 instead......

Mike Weaver was a lean and mean 209 pounds for Michael Dokes in Dec. 1982..... BUT! Weaver came in dry, while Dokes was sweating like a hog in heat... However, regardless, we all know referee Joey Curtis screwed up the call and ruined a potentially good fight......

Cooney would have knocked Cobb out. I always wanted this fight to take place. Cobb had the durability to absorb a beating, so he would not have fallen in one or two rounds. But Cobb would have been an open target for Cooney's brutal left hook -- to the head and the body. Cooney's left jab would have controlled the action from outside, too.

I see Cobb being beaten down into a TKO loss between six and eight rounds. It would have been one sided. I doubt that Cobb, on the receiving end of Cooney's combos, could have gotten his punches off.

Cobb probably would have finished the fight without being knocked down, though. He'd be TKO'd on his feet.

Back in '82, I would have taken Weaver by ko and my opinion hasn't changed in 28 years. I still say though that had Weaver-Cobb not been cancelled 2x, they would have given one of the GREAT heavy fights ever.:rasta

Cooney beats Cobb easily ... Tex was no big puncher by any means and quite slow ... in the street, a far different story ...

I saw the Youtube clips of "Norton-Cobb" from 1980............ Norton didn't win clearly over Cobb........ No, sir......... Norton did land better counters, but Cobb pressed hard and landed some shots, as well....... I'd have bought a draw...... TRUTH!

I got "Holmes-Cooney" rollin' on the machine right now.......

Cooney UD, because I don't think he can stop the very durable Cobb. but Cooney does have the better power, skills, and speed so I pick him.

"Cooney-Cobb" is a great dream fight, cuz Cooney is the better pitcher and Cobb is the better catcher....... I'd love to witness this fight in heaven or hell..... Either place is cool with me........ WORD!

without the use of legs, I agree... Legs in action, Cobb kills Cooney in an alley...

Shavers was small, just like Mike Weaver was buffed but small, too......:deal

"Weaver & Shavers" were murderous punchers at 6' 1" tall and anywhere from 209 to 218 pounds in their primes......
    :bbb

Weaver had the left-hook and Shavers had the booming right hand.....
