I thought it was damn close myself..... I had it basically a draw after 10 rds...... But if they want to give Norton the decision, well fine, go ahead.... Cobb was there fighting......

You're crazy. I think cobb might have won that fight because he had norton on the ropes for most of the fight.. It was actually very close

I kinda' agree there... In my book, only "Ali & Benitez" win fights off the ropes; not Kenny Norton...... Norton had no legs against Cobb in '80...

    Some thoughts:

I know Cobb had an Iron Chin but Cooney would work his body like no other is it possible Conney could stop Cobb to the body and not the head? I say yes.

Cooney should have fought Cobb and then Weaver before Holmes both were winnable fights for him but the Whacko Twins would not risk it.

Cooney needed rounds against contenders and for various reasons some his fault others not he didn't get them.

"The Whacko Twins" (Jones & Rappaport) didn't really know boxing.... They knew marketing.... They knew they had this huge Irish boy who was very sellable to the public, so they basically pumped and hyped his ass up without really have their boy (Gerry) learn his craft the old fashion way by working at it..... They figured Gerry would be just fine with Victor Valle and hammering sparring partners in the gym.... They were wrong about that.....

Dennis Rappaport is still around doing something, but Mike Jones kicked-off several years ago from cancer........ Vic Valle dropped dead back in 2000 or 2001 at age 82 from natural causes......

Ailing Michael Dokes said in a fairly recent interview that Tex Cobb was his toughest opponent he ever faced in the ring..... I think Dokes is certainly sick, delusional and full of **** there, but Dokes is entitled to his opinion......

Did he mean literally the toughest or as in the most difficult opponent? Because Cobb did have a chin made of iron.

He didn't go that deep into Cobb....

But if my memory serves me right, Dokes won a 10 rounder in their first fight and then got a technical win after being cut by Cobb in circa--'85, but since Dokes was ahead on the cards he got the technical dec....... I don't have either fight on tape... I missed both fights......

Shavers is now age 65 and I'm sure he's suffered from some type of bone loss that's common after age 60.... He prolly is a tad bit shorter nowadays...

In his prime, Ol' Ernesto Shavers was a solid 6' 1" tall and 210 + or - pounds of muscle....... Of course this was 35 yrs ago........

He has definitely lost some muscle, but I still wouldn't want him to hit me.

    Hell, no......:-(

But, it is sad he (Shavers) came back in the late 1990s when he was roughly age 52 and got KO'd by some hand-picked opponent......
    :|

The hell was team Shavers thinking?:huh How the **** did he get a license?:admin

He must of needed the money real bad to come back at that age. On the few occasions i met him he seemed a really sound fella. You would'nt have thought he could decapitate you with one punch!
