Cooney by KO Tubbs had a suspect chin and I think Cooney would find his chin eventually after Tubbs outboxes him in the early rounds.

Tubbs by decision. Of the times I've seen Tony get "caught on the chin" and "dropped", they all look extremely fishy to me. He proved that he could take a punch against Smith, Witherspoon, and Bowe- They all landed cleanly on him... But he couldn't take a punch from Ellis or Butler? Yeah, right.

Tubbs for me, the more skilled guy.
Quite tough when he had to be, fast hand's.
Long as he doesn't get to lazy or over confident, I think he gets a decision.

I’m not sure what you’d call Cooney’s chin then.

    Tubbs isn't a big puncher.

    If Tubbs is:
    - Drugs free.
    - In shape.
    - Motivated.

Then Tubbs most probably pulls an UD.
Otherwise Gerry steamrolls him with a brutal stoppage during the mid rounds.

    Spinks wasn’t any better.

Except Gerry never steamrolled anyone with a midrounds stoppage.

I'd say confidently that Spinks had considerably more single puncher power than Tubbs.

Even Cobb commented how hard Spinks hit when he sparred with him.

I picked Cooney by KO and this is a fantasy fight I’ve contemplated a number of times before. As good as Tony Tubbs was, I don’t think he had the kind of boxing ability, chin or snap in his punches to do with Larry Holmes did to Cooney. And that was a fight that went a hard thirteen rounds. In addition, Tubbs was susceptible to getting both hit and hurt with left hooks. In this case he’d be facing one of the most dangerous ones.

Cooney had only seen a single round of boxing action in about 2.5 years. Was overweight and visibly out of shape. Didn’t look like he wanted to be in the ring at all. Very different from the Cooney who tried to lift the title from Holmes 5 years earlier
