I think this would have been an interesting contest to be honest. Especially if they had fought around 1981 when both were arguably around their best. Snipes was probably more battle tested whilst C00ney looked a bit sharper against average opposition and had a size advantage..

I'd expect a close 10-round fight, could go either way.

Like Unforgiven said, could go either way, but Snipes could pull out the close decision victory.****ey would have to be wary of Snipes' right, just as Renaldo would have to be wary of Gerry's left hook.

Snipes would not stand in front of ****ey. He had a very unusual style. Snipes would try to run around, then attack with burst of punches. Actually kind of like the strategy Michael Spinks employed against Gerry in their fight. But 1981 ****ey was certainly better than the version that fought Spinks. I think Snipes would certainly extend the fight. Gerry would try to go to the body and slow Snipes down. I think Gerry would win a late stoppage.

I know that Renaldo would definitely be a tougher fight for Gerry than Ken Norton was.

Interesting fight this, quite possible could have gone either way, many possible scenarios; Snipes inconsistent yet sometimes powerful; ****ey largely untested against live & ambitious opposition

The fact that fights like this didn't happen meant that

    a) ****ey didn't get enough seasoning and schooling;

    b) Because of a above we really can't fully assess how good ****ey was/could have been.

    c) The fact that ****ey's management didn't take fights like this prior to the Holmes challenge suggests to me that they weren't fully confident in ****ey and didn't want to risk his "0" and his ranking.

I really don't think Snipes was that good I'd favor ****ey to blast him out between the 3rd and 5th.

Very tough fight to call, both men were inconsistent, ****ey's best performance in the ring was a loss to Holmes, Snipes nearly KO'D Holmes, if they fought in 81-82, I lean a little more towards ****ey, in a very close almost pick em fight...

However if they had met 1983 forward I would strongly favor Snipes, ****ey's loss to Holmes

up his head, and he was too much into the drugs and the booze, there were also strong rumors regarding ****ey having ties to the Mafia..

Quirky matchup I wouldn't lay any funds down on this one, too bad they never crossed paths..

Gerry needed rounds. Taking on Holmes with just one round against Norton, a fight where he did not get hit back, was no prep for Holmes.

Snipes would have given Gerry more rounds and so would Berbick. Holmes got those guys and they were better prep for their showdown.

Who wins out of Snipes vs Gerry ****ey?

Watch Snipes vs Scott Frank. It's on you tube.

I think it is an accurate description of Snipes .. Renaldo was a head case but he could fight and had a good right hand when he threw it .. ****ey was simply an under developed talent .. management made him a meal ticket instead of a fighter .. inactivity after the Lyle fight really hurt him .. he was in some ways like Morrison in the fact that he had some speed and a huge left hook but wasn't that durable .. to me I like Renaldo based on actual accomplishments ..

They should've put Gerry in the ring with Tex Cobb.Gerry might have been scared s***less, but it would have made him a better fighter, winning a tough fight like that before challenging for the title.
