There's no way in hell those wacko goons who managed Gerry, were gonna roll the dice and risk the huge payday against Holmes, against Cobb who would have roughed up Gerry and gave him.a tough brawl...

I think C00ney would have beaten Cobb but I agree with your point. Promoters were already talking about C00ney fighting Holmes and possibly Weaver as early as when Gerry had beaten Young, so no they weren't going to risk losing those paydays for a high risk low reward opponent.

Maybe they should've put James"Quick"Tillis in there with Gerry. That would've answers questions about him belonging in the ring with Larry.

I think Snipes was a bizarre fighter.
-He was featherfisted by ko percentage but he could knock the prime Holmes down.
    - He had only 2 ko losses/48 fights but Norris,Biggs,Fikes and Donnie Long
    also knocked him down.
-He had lots of close fights : Parkey L sd
    Evangelista L sd
    Witherspoon L md
    Frank d pts
    Coetzee w sd
    Mustafa w sd
    Norris L ud
    Garin Lane w sd

Honorable mention his Lionel Washington (1988 fight .)
The total tired Snipes destroyed Lionel dude but how...
****ey ? ****ey had a very funny (DQ) fight against ST Gordon.
( Just saying Where was the dq when Lewis or Smith were total ridicolous against Tyson ? Nowhere.)
****ey had a very short carrier with 31 fights.
He never beat an actual dangerous fighter.
His 3 best opponents Holmes,Spinks and Foreman knocked him out.
Basically his body was unathletic. ****ey is ****ing overrated.
I think some journalists/fans tried/try to sell him like a big UNSTOPPABLE MONSTER.
****ey-Snipes ? I can imagine like the funniest fight ever.

Nah.. Bob Arum had other plans for James Tillis. In 1981 Gerry was the WBA's #1 mandatory and Arum convinced them to have #4 James Tillis fight Weaver instead.. That explains why C00ney never fought either of them.

Cobb would have done nothing and ****ey would have really damaged him.

Understand Tex was a tough dude.Could see Gerry busing him up for a possible TKO stoppage, but not really hurting him.And Tex was strong too, Gerry would find that out real quick.

Cobb would probably be a punching bag. Most likely this fight would have to be stopped.

Remember, Tex survived Earnie Shavers, in wouldn't be a walk in the park for Gerry.

In the defence of Shavers, the canvas was slick when he fought Cobb. Earnie could not get his footing. He kept sliding. It really took away a lot of his power. Still, obviously Cobb could take a punch. ****ey would probably be teeing off on him and the referee would most likely stop it, but who knows?

One thing is for certain, Gerry wanted no part of Michael Dokes.
