Don't assume Penalosa has no chance because of their common opponent, PDL. I felt Gerry at least deserved a draw in that fight, every time he let his hands go, rights and lefts were bouncing off De Leon's jaw. It's worth noting, Penalosa will be the most skilled fighter he has ever faced up until this point, and we still don't know how well Lopez takes a shot. Usuaully, the huge hitters can't take shots too well. We'll see. I'm cheering on Penalosa, the guy has mad talent.
They were supposed to match him with Johhny Tapia in the 90's but when they saw Gerry spar in the gym the fight did not push through. It was one of thouse gym stories like Manny knocking down his sparring mates.
as much as I am rooting for him, I just don't see Gerry winning this one. I just hope it won't be a stoppage but even that is asking too much.
Penalosa is tough. he will most likely go the distance. if JuanMa does stop him i will be VERY surprised.
Just a side note. Most of Gerry Penalosa's loses were by split decisions to fighters fighting in their back yard. I read he initially retired because he was disgusted with home town decisions that never went his way. Like Marquez, his record is an illusion and you can maybe argue that he is still mostly undefeated. Finito will be happy to know that Gerry lost to a good Korean fighter in joo cho and a very good one in tokuyama who is a north korean.
told you had a chin, the man showed heart as well, that nickname ain't just for show, he didn't come to lay down, but Juanma's just that dude right now, props to both for a great fight
