As much as I want Gerry to win I guess he is way past his prime. If the fight was made 5 or 6 yrs ago then no dought Gerry will demolish Hasegawa.. On the other hand, I still hope he defies the odd just like what Pac did many times!
i hope so too.. the problem is that he is a patient, crafty boxer who relies on his technical skills and his lack of aggression (which, of course, is a pac trait) was always the main reason why he would lose to guys like tokuyama and choo in their home turf. i believe he'll become a very good trainer once he retires though..
Penalosa should just retire with the belt. He has nothing to prove and had his one last great fight against Jhonny. Hes too inactive hoping a big name at 122 would accept his challenge. Retire now Gerry and let the young guns fight for the belt.
I think he really wants to have 1 or 2 more bigtime Las Vegas fights before he retires. He already officially retired after he lost the second time to Tokuyama. After a few years, he felt that boxing's still not completely out of his system, so he made a comeback. Now that he's had good US exposure among casual boxing fans, he's trying to to get a title fight with a good payday, probably the biggest of his career, before he retires.
actually I take it back Other than a payday, I can see why Penalosa wants one more big fight. To me hes barely behind the line for HoF and one big win away from crossing it. I just cant see him winning except for maybe against Caballero.
Penalosa struggles when his opponents move and box, something Hasegawa is quite good at. I don't think he'd sustain much damage, he'd likely just be outboxed from long range. Let's not forget Gerry's inactivity aswell, the ring rust surely won't help him get his punches off. Close but clear fight, Hasegawa wins by UD.
