This thread isn't about their puff up at the fight. I have watched everything I can on these two and I'm really impressed, these are two great looking young, American prospects. I even think they could **** with Lomachenko in the future. Loma is sick but I can't stand the constant interwebz blowjobs this dude gets from all his chickenhead fanboys. What do you guys think of these two and their potential? Do you also think they could give Loma a run for his money and possibly beat him in the future?
Tevin Farmer: He has a great natural talent, one of those fighters that can anticipate punches before his opponents throws them, his footwork, head movement, skills and technique are on point and that he overcame his early setbacks are proof of his heart and toughness, but, he definitely lacks power and needs more experience vs good opponents. Gervonta Davis: I've been watching him since he was an amateur, he's so dynamic, so powerful and confident, some thought he was rushed against Pedraza, but he put a breakthrough performance against a solid opponent. Vs Lomachenko: Farmer) Farmer has been sparring with Lomachenko and acknowledges the quality of Lomachenko, his lack of power is a problem and he has never faced a fighter with the skills of Lomachenko because of his short amateur career, so i think Loma edges him in a close chess match and can even stop him if Farmer doesn't shows improvement at taking shots on future fights. Davis) I don't think that Gervonta is afraid of Lomachenko but i think that Floyd knows, as the best fighter of his generation, knows that an offensive boxer can be taken apart, not saying that Davis isn't skilled, but he's not on Vasyl level yet, i think that if he keeps composure early when he's not landing, he would land later and can force a stoppage if Lomachenko's chin isn't as good as his skills. Overall: I don't think that neither is ready for Lomachenko but IMO if you have a title you have to unify, Gervonta won't be in the ring with Loma in the early future, similar thing happens with Easter vs Garcia or Linares, but Farmer and Davis are world class talents and Farmer is probably one of my top 5 current fighters.
I dig Farmers willingness to fight on short notice, be activeand what not, but he hasn't proven he's world class yet. A win over Ivan Redkach doesn't really do it for me. He needs to show if he has the ability against much better fighters than he has up until this point.
That's another fight I want to see. I think that would be the biggest test thus far for Davis if they can make it happen. Make it happen!
@bcr Good post, Although you rate 'Tank' a bit higher than I do I agree with everything else you wrote and Farmer is one of my favourite fighters currently too. Did I read correctly in a thread the other day that you are only 18? If so its staggering how knowledgeable you are about the sport, particularly the amateur scene. Lomachenko will be far beyond either as far as having a realistic chance for my money, unless its years down the line when Loma is shot to bits. However I would be interested to hear peoples thoughts on a Davis/Farmer fight. I think Farmer could pull the upset and UD Tank.
Thanks, yes, i turned 18 in December but i started boxing when i was 13 so i never stopped reading and watching the sport. Gervonta was one of those popular amateurs that wasn't part of the elite USA squad but was respected because he was a natural but unpolished talent, as a pro he has been on the fast track and imo he would beat Farmer, i like Farmer because he proves people wrong, but he doesn't have power and Gervonta would probably walk trough him the same way he did against Pedraza, well i think that Farmer is more skilled than Pedraza despite the fact that he lost against him, but i don't think he can keep Gervonta away, a guy that drains you that way, without power, fighters like Floyd, Ali, Whitaker or Pep might not be power punchers, but they all scored knockouts over top opponents, Farmer ko rate is too low and he's fighting at a low level of opposition.
Awesome post brother, I really appreciate your in-depth analysis and the time you took to reply. Your a good dude.
I don't get Farmer, frankly speaking... I would say he's overrated. And Davis is lazy and undisciplined...
According to some posters farmer loses a close chess match to loma yet he cant even beat some unknown jap in a chess match
Farmer is the better talent, Davis looks more explosive. Davis is probably on the level of Broner, a prime broner was pretty damm good. A much lesser version of a prime Gamboa.
With Loma getting better and better with every fight, I don't think these guys will ever come near his level. I don't know if anyone really will- especially if he keeps on progressing with every fight. And you need to fight the right opposition and best opposition to continually grow, which Loma is definitely doing. No shame in these two not reaching those heights though, if they do in fact fall short. I think when the dust settles they will both have had very good careers at least.
