Courageous to win the IBF strap by age 22. But it just plummets from there.
There's talk of him fighting Jhonny Gonzalez or one of the former Russell Jr opponents.

I understand he needs to develop his game and experience so these types of opponents may be suitable for him BUT HE'S KEEPING HOSTAGE OF THE BELT AND TRYING TO MILK IT for money!

He should be a man and VACATE so the big boys can fight for the belt. Gervonta thinks he's big wearing some wannabe pimp coat every day in interviews even indoors where he's probably baking in it.

Berchelt, Lomachenko, Gamboa, Corrales, Salido and Miura are all warriors. Gervonta doesn't belong there.

Speed this up to 2x if you wish

You're right he needs to fight the best if he's a champ or drop the belt and fight endless tune ups for all I care.

Are you serious? The guy is 22 let him develop he's still green. He should not be put anywhere near guys like Loma until late 2018 at the earliest.

Everybody knows he's still green. The OP even acknowledged as much. The problem is when you win a world title you forfeit any development fights. Development is no longer the point when you hold a world title. When you hold a world title you are expected to defend that title against the best fighters. No matter how hardened and experienced they may be. Right now he gets totally pasted by Lomachenko in part because he's still developing.

But don't go around and duck Loma because you don't want to end up sipping out of a straw or looking like a journeyman bum. He made the decision to fight for a world title and he won. He has to live with the consequences.

Exactly they act as if the guy has been a titleholder for years and hasn't fought anyone of note. Give him time he will destroy a guy like Miura for example.

Whilst what you're saying is undoubtedly true, nobody wants to see a belt be held hostage. Well I don't anyway. There's far too much of that going on already but like you said he's barely won the belt. No rational person can accuse him of anything yet.

    You're paranoid LMAO
He's a world champion and voluntarily fought for the belt telling us he's ready for anyone in the division.

That's an awful response. Fair enough if he has to fight a mandatory because he can't make a fight with one of the real names of the division, but to stick to mandatories only is a joke when there are blood and guts warriors everywhere who are slick, too.

    I removed Davis's name.

I think the headline to this thread is the real issue here and the OP under it is the justification. You don't like him, fair enough. But two weeks since he won the title - in a fight many thought was a step too far, too early - is way too soon to start making demands he vacates. Like Pimp said, let's see who his minatory is first, before labeling him. Being honest though, that was the intention: shove the direction of travel of his reputation down an avenue of your choosing, for emotional rather than logical reasons and thereby setting the scene and context for any future discussions about him on ESB. I'm calling you out for that right now, and also awarding you an epic fail...

It's absolutely what's wrong with the sport. Champions holding the belt hostage, hence why in England we're seeing Saunders run from everybody and now Chris Eubank Jr even claim that the IBO is a world championship title. It can only get worse. The only path to glory is to fight without care for cereal box belts.
