Mooted for October; they're chirping @ each other via social media.

Tank Davis is 4-0 (4) run in world championship bouts (all of them at super featherweight, three in a row for the IBF and most recently one to begin his current reign with the WBA's "super" belt), and prior to January of last year had never fought in one. Lil Abner, meanwhile, has campaigned just thrice above the featherweight limit - going 3-0 (1) in those contests - and is 7-2-1 (1) overall in world championship bouts at 118, 122, and 126 and despite flashes of good form is years (as well as several pounds) removed from prime.

I think Mares will give an honest effort and probably not get embarrassed too badly, and if they were even close in size it could potentially be interesting as far as styles colliding... but yeah, realistically, meh.

Mares is completely outmatched here, I don't think there's an area he has an advantage in.

I like Mares. Typical mexican style. His fights are always entertaining and he is a nice guy too.

It wouldn't shock me if Mares laid a Cuellar like schooling on Davis, but fairly or unfairly, Davis will probably win.

This fight is a draw on paper, just based on fighting style. But add in age, heart, and speed for tank and a little more pop. I will take tank. Though Abner has the edge in experience and a pretty sturdy chin. I dont think tank has been chin checked yet.

Mares getting a bit long in the tooth. Would be an ideal time for Davis to add Mares' name to his resume. I would image Mares giving a good show for 6 rounds, but losing in the end half.

Mares has no power. Davis will walk right thru him and knock him out

No power this high in weight you mean. At bantam it was respectable.

I thought Mares would be totally done by now, so I was wrong about him in that sense. I don't think it's a mismatch, the opposite actually, but I do think he loses this fight... Jhonny KO1'ing him is still one of my favorite recent results.
