Gervonta Davis vs. Abner Mares Martínez

I've always enjoyed watching Mares fight, but Tank is bigger, stronger and quicker. Tank will walk right through him.

 

I'll go with my boy Mares just because I think he is more technically sound, more experiences and equally as talented. With that said I also feel Davis' speed, size and explosiveness can be an issue for Mares, possibly catching him with a shot and putting him down or out.

 

I like mares but he gets destroyed by Davis. I hope it never happens better fights out there for mares to take.

 

We're talking about the 35 yo Mares that got ktfo by Johny Gonzalez a few years ago, right? I don't see this being much of a fight. It ain't as bad as Miller vs Adamek, I guess, but it's disappointing.

 

It's one of those 'get a big name on your resume with virtually zero risk' type of cherry picks. I'd rather have him fight a lesser known guy in his own weight class to be honest.

I actually like Tank but I agree, it's a disappointing fight.

 

Yeah I'm with you. I really like Tank. I think he might be the actual, bonafide goods. Shame to watch it sit around going to waste. Starting to remind me of Gamboa.

 

Isn't Mares older than Davis? According to Davis and TMT, age matters for them because Davis is still young and can't fight older men. Or is that only applied when Loma shows up in the picture?

 

Thoughts?

Mares is a decent name still but he's past his best and coming up a weight. I mean, it isn't a bad fight as Mares is capable but I guess I just want a little more from Davis as opposed to this and pretending he'll fight in MMA...

 

Tank is such a good fighter that he’s clearing out 126 while he’s at 130 name me any other fighter to do that!!!!

No one wants too see Davis beat up these blown up featherweights. Davis should be matched with guys in his weight category like Berchelt, Machado, Farmer and even Lomachenko.

Good step up for who Gervonta has boxed so far, it’s clear they want to take him up the ranks slowly. It’s been frustrating seeing him progress so slow.

As fans we obviously wanna see him v ppl like Loma but cmon, if you’re his manager are you gonna be enthusiastic bout taking the Loma right right now?

If they ever do they’ll wait a couple years to try get a better shot
