The fight between Gervonta Davis against Yuriorkis Gamboa has been official. Thoughts on this match up? Interesting test for Tank and could be a wild brawl for a few rounds, but I think Tank will eventually put away the older Gamboa in the 6th round IMO. Pretty excited for this one, actually.
Big surprise, Davis stepping up and fighting a faded, older guy with no chance of winning. Hope he fights a live body someday at 135. He talks a big game but always picks a soft touch opponent. Young Gamboa would have been a different story. This version is a shell of his former self. Hope Tank doesn’t miss weight for this one. Zzzz.
Let’s remember that Gamboa is Crawford’s best win (IMO) and I’m interested to see if Tank could perform better against him. I’m not sure if Gamboa still has that same speed that troubled Crawford early on, but I’d like to see if Gamboa can manage to give Tank a tough fight using his speed. Unless Tank clocks Gamboa rushing in early on. I only wish that Gamboa was 8 years younger, the guy used to be a really exciting fighter before he squandered his career.
Pretty sure Postol is a better win than Gamboa, Crawford had a significant size advantage over Gamboa.
And Horn was an undefeated Belt holder with an official victory over Pacman. No matter what you thought of the Horn-Pac scoring, on paper that was an impressive win for Crawford.
Yea, Cawfords resume is weak and there is a strong argument for Gamboa being the best Crawford has faced, but! That fight happened 5 years ago. And back then Gamboa was already seen as being on the downslide.
I don't really care for this fight. Gamboa lost to Sosa I thought. He's way past it and fighting at a weight he shouldn't really be at. It's better than who he has been fighting so there's that I guess.
Gamboa is still good fighter at 37. His speed and agressiveness is no longer as high as in his prime, but technically he is still good. I think he is doing well against Sosa and dominated in at least half of the ten rounds, but his defense is so exposed and Sosa took advantage of it. If there is no improvement in his defense, I'd say Davis by T/KO.
It should be a demolition job, but Gamboa deserves some credit for having put together a decent comeback.
