Popular guy lately. I think Bowe eventually walks him down and finds a home for his right hand over the top. Cooney has a great left but overall doesn't have enough weapons or durability to hold his ground in this one.

I think this is a bad fight for Cooney. Bowe basically has everything, except for maybe an inch or two in height.

Riddick Bowe by stoppage around the 6th or 7th.

Neither guy really fulfilled their potential, bowe did deliver in his big championship fight at least. That said, Cooney was up against a better more seasoned champion, not a cruiserweight turning away veteran heavyweights. Holyfeild might have been an easier task compared to peak Holmes but would the inactive Cooney who troubled Holmes beat holyfeild? Perhaps not. Losing to Holmes - a better version of bowe -doesn’t equal beating holyfeild. Bowe has an edge here using his form against holyfeild but any other version of bowe its 50-50 against title challenging Cooney at best. Cooney was a lot better than golata..

Bowe would be too good in all departments for Cooney.

Gerry Cooney is used to capitalizing on his height and strong left hook. Against Bowe his height advantage is negligeable, also -- Bowe has a chin on him.

A surprisingly patient Bowe in the 8th, by TKO.

I agree. Cooney's early round tenacity combined with Bowe's questionable defense, may provide an opportunity for Gerry to have some early success, perhaps even rock Bowe.. But as things heat up, I can see Riddick getting better with each round, while Gerry slowly starts to break down. As mentioned before, I think this ends somewhere in round 6 or 7, with either the referee or Cooney's corner saving him from further punishment. Gerry was good offensively, but he just didn't have the staying power to beat a man who could both match his arsenal and outlast him in one package.

If Cooney "goes" downstairs (keep it legal), he has a shot.

An '81 Cooney may stop Bowe. The later the fight goes, the better for Bowe.
