If it is accepted that our sport is too minority now for the BBC and ITV - Why not channel 4?

Channel 4 is dedicated to the minorities and it could be a marriage made in heaven. They have linked channels E4, More4 & 4music, why not 4sport.

They took on Italian Football when Sky got the Premiership and got good viewing figures. Channel 4 racing is first class. They have done Rallying, Tour De France, Cricket etc

If us fight fans can bombard channel 4 with e-mails we may get noticed

They contract a fighter, they show him spatter half a dozen no-name donkeys...he gets a title shot and he's off to Sky.

Basically they'd be paying to do Sky's marketing for them.

scratch, that wouldn't matter to them if they were getting the ratings and they could get the fights for the right price

promoters and fighters really have to assess and revaluate what their doing in this sort of climate, its time for them to make secrifices for the greater good in the long run, terestrial networks would put boxing on because the ratings and demand IS there if fighters fought for what guys like benn, bruno, nas, eubank and so on, took home in the respective stages of their careers

    :patsch

they've said it so many times even the fans are starting to believe it

only thing "minority" about it is the no terestrial coverage
boxing does not meet the criteria for minority sport, it has enough die-hards with a big capacity for casual interest, a big tv sport with the best practitioners earning as much as most other top sportsmen, 8 mill would not tune in to watch audley harrison vs danny williams, ametuar boxing would not compare with anything in the olympics in terms of viewing figures, 30,000 would not go half way across the world to fellow one man and it wouldn't smash box-office records if this sport was "too minority"

    Agreed

Look at the takings for Hatton-Floyd, tens of millions, it's hardly ****ing curling is it...

What sports would get 1.4m people in the UK paying £15 to watch a 5am start? I'd venture not a single one other than football and boxing.

However Channel 4 are far too liberal to show boxing IMO

That's the truth, although I think Channel 5 should step up to the plate they could do very well out of boxing if they got their act together.

Also, i cannot understand how ITV are hesitating over the Hennessy contract, he has a very good stable of boxers and I have really enjoyed the bills on ITV4 this year with excellent commentary as well. A real shame, if they knock it on the head.

The executives at Channel 4 are liberals, who believe that boxing should be banned. They will never ever ever give boxing serious coverage.

Boxing has supporters on the executive boards at ITV and Channel 5 only.

Channel 4 is the guardian newspaper of TV channels, and will never support boxing.

The news progamme always has given the most far liberal left bias of any other channel on TV. They show alot of documentaries that appeal to the far liberal left.

Specifically on the subject of boxing.

I will never forget the debates I have seen on channel 4, in which they have talked about boxing as a brutal sport which needs to be banned.

The people they selected on the panel for this debate were ALL against boxing and wanted it banned. When any channel select people on the panel of a debate- they should select people with different views for a proper debate. This shows the opinion that channel 4 has on boxing, and proves to me that they do not want this terrible brutal sport ever on their channel!

You seem to have a rather American political compass view that I find tends to not relate particularly practically well to the real world. Mostly because real people don't fall into the catagories that it tries to pigeonhole them into.

In any case, I have no idea how someones political leanings (if thats what you're actually referring to) affects whether or not they are a boxing fan.

Can't say I remember it. What was the show and when was it broadcast?
