junior you are starting to come across as a bit of a whinger. Sounds like you can give it but cant take it back. We all heard you call shannan a dog during the fight, wtf was that about, it was a head clash. You also apparently wrote stuff on shannans missus facebook. If you gonna dish it out you got to expect it back..

yeah i heard barry taking the ****, i think its all in good fun though. Im a briggs fan still but some of his comments made me laugh.

    i enjoyed the commentary.

i liked briggs comment how he repeatedly said old fighters don't recover from body shots. Then barry said, your not wrong there. hahahah too funny.

    something like

its hard to hurt a hard headed coconut like junior, with his iron chin

    it made me laugh

briggs is a legend. to many whingers in here. first you all whinge green fights no one, briggs shut down the green circus and exposed him. Now it made green stand up and finally fight someone. It takes big ****en balls to do what briggs done (if it was a fix). If green wants to fight has beens years after they retire what does he expect, a war? Green got exposed. Now if someone could do the same to mundine maybe he might fight a decent opponent at some stage too.

the briggs and michaels commentary team is my favourite to listen too, i hope they keep paul on tv.

i think its very disrespectful, he isnt some drunk yobbo in row 30.

and no, trying to use it in a positive way doesnt make any sense.

jrn is on here saying he doesnt like it, and then other posters say "we all say it"

gee i bet that makes jrn feel great.

i think what briggs meant was junior has a head hard like a coconut, so he will have to go to he body to hurt him. because junior was taking lots of punches on the chin but none seemed to hurt him.

I have quite a few mates who are islanders who actually refer to themselves as coconuts, and its not racist no matter if junior doesnt like it.
Far from racist, it is that all the islanders such as the fijians, tongans, samoans etc are coconuts because there country is covered in coconut trees and they eat, use coconuts like we use vegemite.
Its like us being called skippys - I dont take offence to being called a filthy flea bitten pest of a roo, I take it as yes, I'm from the place with kangaroos. My mates come from the land of the coconuts.

Sorry Junior but I dont think its racist, its not like he said you were a kiwi sheep shager or you looked like a coconut or was as dumb as a coconut or even had a head as hard as a coconut, Briggs said These coconuts have hard heads, which is true, white men cant jump,

Ok, next time you are walking past an islander or two on the street, say something like "hey coconut, do you have the time?" Let me know how they take it.

The way his said it is pretty much racist imo, its not like he said lets go have a penicalada in a coconut instead of a glass, he made the comment in ref to JNR, i pretty much agree with JB on this one, its deogatory and all that. Its even more strange that they have him as a commentator on main event when the investigations still pending from the last farce he appeard on with main event. This rot casts more of a dark shadow over boxing imo.

Briggs should be keept clear of boxing until the investigation clears him of any wrong doings. In saying that, i do find Briggs to be a great commentator. Did any of the other commentators ask Briggs how his soft spot is mending up? lol

    :good

If i walked up to any of our guys and called them a cocunut I would not get a good reaction.

Not suprised - Briggs should never be on.

How about innocent until proven guilty?

My gut feeling and from what I've seen thinks that Briggs is in on a fix, but I'm happy for him to be trialled first.

As for the comment, well, I never saw the fight and can only go on what I read here, but it sounds like he was referring to his head being hard like a rock, or coconut. Probably a poor choice of words, but if he had said it about a whitey it wouldnt have been a problem.

    Harden up ****s.

Spot on, im certain he meant the comment as a reference to his hard scone. I hope he apologises to Jnr regardless as it was a very poor word choice.

Perhaps the "Coconut" reference has a deeper meaning to islanders.

I once worked in the mines with a bloke that had a nickname for a particular breed of Englishmen.

He referred to them as "Passionfruits". I thought it was a sort of term of endearment, until we recruited another one.

"Not another ****en passionfruit" he bemoaned.

Curiosity got the better of me. "Why do you call them passionfruits?" I enquired.

After a pause, he says "They're thick skinned. Yellow inside,,& too many of them give you the shits"

Is there a similar correlation with our idyllic neighbours that is not known to us? :huh

spot on mate.5 fight in 5 years last at MW Siaca,3.5 year retired with health issues Briggs next up was a Shane Cameron who looked like **** at 95kg how he would look at 90kg who knows.its made Green step up.and lets not kid ourselves Briggs whilst a stupid comment made on air
would be absolutely nothing compared to what Tasmanians in pubs would of shouting at the television screens when Geale was having dominant moments over Mundine.
