Agreeed. Geal to slick, it would look like a one sided fight, JNR would have to press him on the ropes constantly even then he would still be fighting an uphill battle. I think Geals going to be Australias next world champion and i wonder then what Mandy will do... my bet is he comes back up in weight and trys to snatch geals title. I hope geal doesnt give him the time of day and if he does and they get it on he knocks him out this time and doesnt allow it to go to the judges cards as Mandys got a few judges in his pocket it would seem.
I think it's safe to say we all agree Briggs should never fight again.....however I would like to see him continue in boxing as a trainer and in commentary. Briggs has lots to offer in both departments and I would love to see him involved training the kids...just like Dan Geale or Tony Nobbs does. I was going for Taylor in the fight but I was impressed with the way JT went about his work...love the body shots
There are more deserving and equally qualified people out there capable of replacing Briggs. Give them a go.
I have to agree with Juniour here, Briggs should never see a ringside microphone again. There is no way that his blatant dive can ever be excused, regardless of the reason we never got the proper answers that most would feel necessary for closure. If I were Juniour I'd feel like beating the **** out of him. Here is a young guy, training his ass off, who has always fought hard, yet the commentator (the same one who dived to the floor for $250,000) is belittling him and making racist remarks. I reckon Juniour would fight either Klitchko's for the same kind of money Briggs threw himself on the matt for against Green. The least Briggs can do after that farce is show some respect for Aussie boxers who are genuinely giving their all in the ring. Showing your opinion after being hard done by on a public forum is totally fine with me. If he didn't then we'd never be the wiser about how Briggs comments affected him.
One ex fighter I would like to see behind the mic for specialist comments would be Robbie Pedan. I am not sure of his abilities behind a mic but I think his knowledge of boxing and from what I can tell his straight forward approach would make for some interesting viewing.
I couldn't take anything Briggs said seriously and honestly, he does adversely affect the viewing experience of a boxing event Every 11.4 seconds i kept shouting at the TV, Shut the **** up you fat cheating mother ****er ! Sorry, just telling it how it was for me
What a stupid thing to say It's like if a ****** rapes a girl, and afterwards you tell the girl "cmon love, let bleeding dogs lie and move on, your ****** has so you can do"
The analogy though extreme is accurate and that is if someone wrongs someone else (in this case Briggs has wronged the boxing world and us fans), they don't have the right to determine when the matter is dead and buried.
I don't think anyone really said let it be dead and buried though. Up until just yesterday the powers that be have been in the process of determining what happened. And why your analogy was particularly bad is because, firstly, even a ****** will be able to move on after he's done time. And secondly, whilst Briggs hadn't been punished yet, it's not like he will be able to go out and dupe the public again in a boxing ring (like the ****** could **** again if he wasn't in jail). And thirdly, **** is a much worse crime than theft or fraud will ever be. All he did was commentate, and he did that like he always has, very well.
The difference now is before Briggs was a respected retired boxer with a good career and great past performances. This debarcle has shot his credibility totally. How can he honestly commentate about the effort the boxers are putting on after what he has done ? I don't see how he can look anyone in that arena in the eye after what he did If an accountant is found with child porn on his computer, he can still do his job as well as he did before, but his reputation is shot so he gets sacked.
