Stevens landed 97 punches in 8 rounds. That's 12 punches per round. Those are Mayweather-type defensive numbers from a come-forward pressure fighter who seeks to knock you out. Golovkin took some punches because he had no respect for Stevens' power and wanted to punk him in front of his home crowd. Most of Stevens' stuff though was rolled and defensed.
Golovkin know how to roll with the punches, but he knew that he could take Steven's punches after he felt him out!!!
Golovkin took away his volume, Stevens was trying not to get KO'd. If Stevens threw 2 punches in the fight and landed 1 of them, he'd have a 50% connect rate - that wouldn't make him a killer though. Cleverly landed 69% of his power punches against Kovalev - do you remember any of them? If Floyd tried to fight Golovkin's style, even against "average" type opponents, he would get hit more. :deal
GG was walking straight back with his hands down. That is a bad habit for a veteran fighter to still have.
