Cunningham's got the only other belt, calling out Haye, willing to travel, the money is THERE, so why won't the fight get made?

I know...paper title. But **** that, Cunningham was Bell's IBF mandatory before vacating that title.

But instead haye wants a fight at heavyweight. Last I heard about his heavyweight venture, Rahman was the target, so we can assume that's the calibur opponent he'll be looking at for his next fight: top 25, old, been KO'd before, and will be easily KO'd again.

The fight wont be made, because he said after the Mormeck fight that it was a struggle to make the weight and he wanted to move to Heavy. Since a boy his dream was to be the Heavyweight Champion and now he was in a position where making the Cruiser limit was draining him of energy and making him vunerable.

He said Mormeck was his last Cruiser fight. Then the offer to fight Mac was made properly and the money was huge for him, plus it was a fight all of Britains boxing fans wanted to see.
It was a one off opportunity to have a huge all British battle in England and for great money and also a chance for him to shut up Frank Warren, Enzo Calzaghe and Enzo Mac who had been talking about how David was going to duck Mac because he knew he could not beat him.

To now stay at Cruiser for another fight, that will interest almost nobody in the US and against a guy who is pretty much unknown in Britain would be totally pointless.
The pay day would be crap. The UK fans would not be nearly as interested as if he stepped up to Heavy. The US average fan does not care about Cunningham and he is recognised as THE MAN at the weight by The Ring magazine and practically every boxing pundit and fan on the planet.

If he stayed and killed himself to make weight again and then beat Cunningham, someone else could pipe up with "What about Bell" or "Fight a banger like Ding" or "What about Flores"?

He made an exception in fighting Mac and is now going to heavyweight. And if his first fight is a big puncher like Rahman then it is hardly a poor opponent choice as you seem to be implying.

If you are talking legacy and start to finish career, then I agree with you that a L doesn't trash one's overall career. If you got offended by my post just look at my avatar... It will make you feel better.:yep

Haye is a good fighter, the heavyweight division is a mess, so if somebody exciting comes around, everybody is bound to get excited. And he is clearly a brilliant fighter, who could go on to become world champ, even undisputed champ.

Would you really rather see him fight Rahman than Cunningham? If so, I don't think you can really consider yourself to be a true boxing fan.

You appear to be more focused on Haye's $$ (or should I say £?) and popularity than seeing some quality fights.

It sickens me to think that he is British...but it's a burden that I'll have to withstand.:nut

Like hell is the money there. Cunningham is a nobody in terms of exposure, even in the USA. Dont try to back up your argument with something that is completely untrue.

Cunningham is a good, skilled fighter, and is defo the number 2 in the division. But Haye is moving up for a crack at the HW's, and you can't fault him for that.

Haye could stay at Cruiser forever fighting 'one last' challenger to his title, but he is moving up to bring a bit of excitement and energy to the HW division. Cunningham is simply off David Haye's radar.

Hell yes I would. The HW division needs a bit of ****ing life, Haye sparking Rahman will cause excitement and a stir, and will lead him to title shots.

Eric Fields, BJ Flores, Steve Cunningham, Thomas Adamek, Jonathan Banks, and Rob Calloway are all there for the taking. It doesn't take much to get a title shot at cruiser nothing more than 15 solid fights. (especially if you have a good amateur background)

Eric Fields is a guy waiting for a big fight ... I seen him fight and he's something to be reconed with.

He's around the same size as Haye and is on the rise fast ...

No. I explained WHY the fight would not happen. I did not say that I prefered Haye to make lots of money than fight the best fights, that would be ******ed. How much he makes is irrelevant to me, but it is relevant when discussing factors surrounding potential fights.

I cannot believe that of all people Haye is being talked about as not wanting to take on the best fights. He has ALWAYS stepped up to test himself. The fact is that he struggles to make Cruiser and has always wanted to fight at heavy.

You appear to be being deliberately obtuse. Obviously if it was a choice between Rahman and Cunningham as single fights, I would prefer the latter. But the fact is that...

    a) Most fans on both sides of the Atlantic would prefer the former, as most fans are casual ones.

    b) The Rahman fight is not the overall aim, it is getting an established name at Heavyweight so as to get the big fights in the division.

    c) Rahman is actually dangerous due to being a puncher, and all the people saying Haye has no chance against a real heavy would have to shut up if he sparked Rahman. In contrast I do not see anything that Cunningham has to worry Haye. Haye is faster, hits WAY harder and Cunningham is not some defensive genius, so he is going to get hit.
