BTW thats not me being pro-Hatton, its just how I feel how the sport should be in general. Linear is a big thing to me, it doesn't always mean you are the the best but it does mean you are the champ.

 

I've seen Witter in a few good scraps. I reckon his 'boring' tag has been created by Hatton fans who are trying to justify the reasons for Ricky dodging him.

Witter is a world champ (he holds the prestigous WBC belt which Ricky has never held) and he seems to genuinely want to fight all comers.

I can see Witter KO'ing Hatton if they meet and Ricky would never be able to live it down and thats why he wont fight him. (history will always question Hattons motives)

 

Nah, trust me. Witter has been in some real stinkers on TV. I'm not saying thats a valid reason for Hatton not to have to fight him, just that its not something dreamt up.

 

There is no doubt that Ricky hatton is a good person, a fan favourite & you cant question him as a man of the fans. I used to slaughter him as a person, but dont now.
However, Ricky a smart fella when it comes to manipulating his fans so he can take easy fights for maximum paydays.
How any Hatton fan can say they would prefer to see Ricky fight Lazcano or Malignaggi instead of Witter astounds me tbh. & for all I slag off Hatton fans in general, there are Hatton fans on this forum who know their stuff. This post is aimed at you, not the thicko Hatton fans.(smart Hatton fans you know who you are)

Deep down, you know a Witter fight is the ONLY fight out there for Ricky. The Mayweather rematch talk is just that, its a ploy to boost PPV sales for Hattons next fight. Malignaggi? To me hes in the same league as Urango & Maussa, except he has a big mouth. Hatton talks about legacy, but every fight he has won apart from the Tszyu fight has been against belt holders, & not the elite of the sport.

Now if Hatton was to beat Witter, that would be massive for him. Lets not kid ourselves on here. & another fact is that Witter is getting on a bit now, could there ever be a better time for Ricky to slay his rival in front of his adoring fans?

& thats what Im saying. The Witter ducking is inexcusable, & Hatton only gets away with it cos hes hoodwinked his thicko fans into believing a WBC champion is not deserving of a fight with him.

Smart Hatton fans, dont let loyalty make you fall into the trap his thicko fans have fallen into. Feel free to support Ricky, but dont make excuses for him not taking on a a deserving long time rival. What Hatton is doing goes against what makes us love boxing in the first place.

 

Without trying to sound patronising, the linear title is a nice concept but in reality it doesn't work. There's nothing to stop the so-called champion running from the number 2 guy.

I blame the Ring for all this. They decided the way to clean up the alphabet mess is to introduce ANOTHER title! Now guys like Hatton think "wow I can dump any other titles, keep the ring belt and I won't have to fight Witter or anyone else I don't like the look of."

Hatton got his linear title from beating Zoo, Witter picked up his WBC belt from beating Corely, who'd recently lost to Cotto and Judah (who'd also beat Witter) in previous title challenges at 140. Boxing has always worked on the premise that titles are won and lost in the ring wherever possible so I know which title carries more weight with me.
