Grandpa ain't his trainer. As for him quitting, That must be the Kansas part in him. (That defo does not represent Cali/Oxnard or Ortiz)
Fully agreed. I was an Ortiz fan prior to that interview. Now I don't care to ever see him fight again.
Like I have always said, any fighter from Texas, Kansas or anywhere else not from southern California, that comes from Mexican decent, have zero heart. Sure there are exceptions but look at ROBOBOXER Rocky Juarez and Juan Diaz who basically quit after he saw blood when he fought Nate Campbell. Don't get me started with "The Ghost" Robert Guerrero. These guys are talented but have zero grit.
Whatabout David Diaz? You can't say that guy doesn't have heart after watching that Pacquiao fight. He went out like a warrior.
Yep, this is exactly what he needs to do, it has to do nothing with the trainer. Ortiz failed in the intangibles, not on the actual boxing skills.
No they get sucked into the whole "mexican warrior" mentality and forget how to box, trying to prove themselves to the mexican public. Its how Marquez got in Diaz' head during their fight. Claiming he wasnt a real Mexican, which caused Juan Diaz to plow forward into those uppercuts trying to prove himself. Its bullsh!t.
It had nothing to do with the trainer or the game plan, he got his ass kicked plain and simple. Maidana would beat him every damn time, Ortiz is not tough and has no heart for when it gets rough in the ring.
Ortiz won 4 of the first 5 rounds and knocked Maidana down twice. Ortiz is a far better natural fighter then Maidana. His training and mentality was just bad.
Ortiz needs to go get Nacho, Roach or even Atlas guys who have proven that they know how to mold good southpaws. His movement for a southpaw is atrocious. Front and back like an orthodox fighter no lateral movement. Until he gets the right trainer who knows how to train southpaws he is never going to be able to avoid that right hand, right now he is a lot like a young Manny minus the heart.
