Getting an A, Then D+s all year, then all of a sudden a b minus.

Who entered the game with great poise in a homecoming type very first fight... Then lost some luster by putting away a string of bad fights, only to come through in the end and win that big fight!
I would say Rahman (non chronologically) first his rebirth with Kali meeham- knocked out dude throwing jabs on the inside. Then... He had some duds.,.. Ruiz, Tua, Holyfield, toney. But came through in a clutch and got the job done against double L
Then I would say toney for the SECOND part of his career. It started off with a win against Sione asipeli, while people clamoured it was a sheet fight for ESPN. However teddy and tessitorw stroked his ego, so he could... Put together a humble string of wins before the A plus fight against jirov. Winning it and looking like a beast in retrospect.
Both guys were good for the hw division, they even fought each other. Heck Rahman is in the lineage of Dempsey, Johnson, Lewis, many more... Toney is the king of ten blocks and one of the best little pound for pounders who performed great at heavy, no matter what the size disparage. Dude could crack like a middleweight to gain respect but also didn't mind handling more power.
