Who's been through this? I posted a thread in the lounge a while ago about having surgery, and 5 or so months later here I am, sans a few inches of intestine

I desperately want to get back in the ring and spar again but I don't think it will happen for a while as I found out today... we had ordered a lumbar support for one of our chairs in the office, it looked like this

Naturally, I flipped it around and wore it on my front, upside down like a crotch-guard and approached my workmate in a mock boxing stance....he gave me the slightest of taps to the abdomen and I recoiled in horror faster than Zab Judah would. So yeah. A few more months out for me methinks

Share your stories of 'overcoming' injuries and the horror that awaited you when you realised that your fitness / tecnique had reverted back to caveman-style

    What happened?

How long were you out for?

Where you a bit timid upon your first time back in the ring?

I had bad shoulder injuries. A partial tear and a dislocation. I had got surgery from one of this best sports med drs in the country. All my range of motion was gone so i had to quit. Was real depressed for a while but thats life **** happens. Take the physical therapy serious an warm up before fights and in the gym more thorough than you did before

The last two years have sucked for me, I had a left shoulder injury (falling off a ladder) which I didn't attend to I thought it would heal on its own. A year later was still lingering did some physio on the NHS which was useless in hindsight

Went back into training because my left shoulder was still injured (but I didnt realise) I hurt my right shoulder had private physio on that which fixed the problem and now going through physio on my left again.

So I have had a start and stop start and stop experience in getting back to the gym, also had a knee injury because I wasnt boxing so much I started to run and skip alot and hurt my knee lol

All in all I expect to be out for another 4 weeks and havent seen the inside of a ring since December and even when I did I got beat down in sparring lol Im hoping it was due to my injuries and not me having regressed

I played pro golf for a few years and tore my right bicep in the gym.

Tried coming back too soon and it took years to recover.

Get good advise , physio , rest and patience.

    peace.

ACL surgery. Injury happened while playing competitive soccer. Went to the mechanic, got it fixed, and I still play without any problems. A lot of pivitol movement in boxing as well without any problems.

Rolled an ankle twice... all good now.

It's all about proper rehab. Nothing bothers me now...

Boxing, Soccer and ****ing will never stop for me.

Just a question, of course sometimes a doctor will tell you that you're fine and you really are.

But how hesitant were you to re-engage knowing that you just had healed an injury?

    Who are you asking?

For me I was hesitant because I didn't want to reinjure myself but when I started getting my ass kicked I completely forgot about my injury and started trying desperately to stop the guy from repeatedly tapping my jaw lol.

After both my jaw and my shoulder hurt! But I wasn't actually fully healed and that what tends to happen its not that you reinjure yourself it's that you haven't given it enough time or enough Physio for your body to heal.
