I've been boxing on and off for a few years mostly training in White Collar classes.

I am looking to step up my training a bit as the training in the white collar gym I'm at is a bit basic, though I'm still not training for anything that serious.

I've never competed in boxing and I don't fancy competing in White Collar as the match up's are all over the place. I've seen some completely ridiculous mismatches in White Collar. A guy I know who is an out of shape 83kg was matched up with a guy over 100kg.

I have a question about getting an amateur card and doing one or two fights.

Firstly, I'm 33 is it still possible to get carded as an amateur boxer in the UK? Searching online I found one link that said after 27 it is not possible to get carded. I saw another link that said you could get carded at any age between 18 and 40.

Also if I do get carded, I would guess that all your fights are then included on your card? This would help to avoid me getting put in with a ringer and beaten up badly as I would fighting a fellow novice such as myself.

    - You can compete till 40.

    - Your coach should tell you if you are ready or not.

    - Before amateur fight you should have sparrings with boxers who already had some amateur fights

    - If you sign up for some league or revial fight, your coach should speak with other coaches and find the best match for you.

    - If you sign up for a tournament you could get a hard opponent

    - Whatever your opponent is, your coach can always throw a towel and save you from beating, it all depends on communication between you and coach. If your coach cares for you, he should throw a towel and prepare you better for next time. Sometimes, it is great to fight hard opponents only one round just to feel the technique, tempo and strength which you need to achieve to beat these guys.
