So, I've been jump roping a lot as of late, and I've learned a lot of new tricks: on rare occasions, I can do a double-under, and I can consistently do crossovers now.

However, now, for some reason, I keep having trouble tripping over the rope. I used to be able to do it for at least 200 times around before, but now, I can barely manage to get 10 off, and I don't know why. My feet are close together, my timing is good, and I'm jumping a good 2-3 inches off the ground, however, it keeps getting caught on the heel of my shoes and I don't know why.

Anyone have any advice? it makes me mad, because I've never had this problem before, and I figured with all the new tricks, my cardio would skyrocket due to the higher intensity, but if I can't even get 10 times around consistently anymore, how am I supposed to condition?

Oh, and I am making contact with the ground, so it's not like my rope isn't hitting.

i have and had this same problem when i skip it usually just your timing slow up your pace and make sure your rotations in sync with feet movement and concentration bc slight change in pace or arm rotation can mess you up and should be able to do. Or if you skip in lightweight running shoes could be your grip on the bottom. The type of ground/platform or jumprope could also be a factor in the problem far as rebounding as it turns after it hits the ground.

but you have changed your technique to the right way so its gonna while to get good at the right way of doing things, most beginners jump too high and dont replicate what its llike to move around in the ring. it took me 3weeks to get back to where i was at skipping, i was jumping 2footed rather than alternatating. you will need to keep trying but if you do feel like your not improving your cardio, run on the spot with high knees and more sprints, i did this when there was no room at the gym and it still takes it out of ya after a couple of rounds.

inconsistent/bad technique, bad timing or using a different length/weight rope can throw you off.

Quite a trivial problem if you ask me. Skipping does not do that much for cardio, anyway. Is your skipping rope the right lenghth? One way I check is by stepping on the middle and seeing if I can get the handles to reach my armpits

It does if you have relatively poor cardio, and of course endurance in the arms and the legs.

Don't let it bum you out bro. Keep practicing calm down, maybe you have some type of mental block. WOOSA. This is what i teach my guys I train. Boxing is all about about being relaxed. Be relaxed with everything you do. You need the mindset of I CAN I CAN I CAN, vice I CAN'T I CAN'T I CAN'T.
