Hi all not really an advice thread. Last night i got hit a fair bit in the gym. First one was an accident as we were meant to be throwing and blocking alternative right hands, guess the guy i was paired with forgot the alternate bit and clocked my with a straight right to the cheek. Stayed on my feet but first time iv been properly hit i guess. Thankfully it didnt do anything. Next exercise was jabs against each other at the same time but blocking aswell ( covering your chin) first one which i coped with fine. But when we were doubling up it was really hard. Then it was tripple jab at the same time then tripple finishing with a left hook (as your partner is doing exact same). I think im reasonably ok at this boxing for a beginner fairly co-ordinated but that was hard. Guess the only thing i want to know is do you get used to punches coming at you and is there anything i can do to help as all i could think about was blocking and trying not to get hit ( therefore i was barley jabbing back and it was annoying as i know i have a good fast jab). But no matter how hard i talked myself into it " this time dont move your head back and makesure you jab back " i failed. Suppose just annoyed at myself more than anything. Im sure i know what your going to say that you do get used to it but if theres any advice let me know!! Oh and i got cracked on the nose , got the whole blured vision and everything.:!: You know what iv just realised typing this...... God i love boxing! Cant wait for tomorrow nights session!!!!!:good Thanks for listening!
Once you see them coming it will get easier and punches will bother you much less. While blocking punches, always keep looking through your guard. In the beginning this is hard as natural reflexes like turning your head away and blinking need to be unlearned first.
it just comes with time, its like when sparring your first time your nervous and everything youve learnt goes out the window but after a while you learn to swallow your instinct of getting away and just get on with it
the fear is good. dont clam up or anything but when your sparring it makes you sharper. use the fear you have of getting hit in those drills as incentive to do everything right.
Went alot better tonight felt alot sharper and made sure when i was blocking the jab it was nice and strong so i knew my head was safe. Just sort of clicked more into place tonight, cheers lads. Things can only get better:good
