People say jab, but IMO jabbing against taller opponents who have a longer reach than you would be pretty useless. What do you reckon guys?
You have to be agressive. But in spurts if you like. Stay low, stay on the outside, slip his jab, jump inside and throw a hard combination. If he's slow then you can jab or counter his jabs (with a right hand over it is possible too), but basically you're gonna need good footwork, a tight guard and body movement, staying low.
I've heard people say to get in a really low stance so the taller person has to move in closer to hit you. Once he's in kind of spring up and you should be in range. I've never tried this myself but it makes since to me.
Throw double jabs. Half step forward between the two. Go to the body first, then work up to the head in your combination, then bounce right back outside.
That will work fine if your opponent is agressive and willing to get in punching range. But if your opponent fights tall, say like Wlad Klitschko, then that won't get you anywhere. Throw a double jab? He'll simple take two steps backward and counter in case you're off balance or after the first jab.
Or if they have decent timing and pick up on the rhythm, when you bounce back out, they'll put you at the end of their right hand and drill you with it when you're in a really vulnerable position, backing away.
Depends how you do it. It could work, or they could counter you if they have good timing or movement.
Doing fine. A smaller guy with a bit of a beer stomach busted my lip last week. I easily outsped and outreached him, so i went kind of easy on him and avoided his swings which went well untill the very end of the round when he tagged me hard. I could only come back with one right hand before the round was over.
When you are fighting a guy taller than you, go to the body. If you come out head hunting and the guy has a significant reach andvantage on you your going to get countered and will be eating leather all night. Body jabs, put constant presure on, stay low and force the taller opponent to drop his hands.
