Anyone have advice on how many weeks I should exercise for before setting up a session with a boxing trainer? I get a new bike next week so I'm planning on having that as my main fitness tool.
Jump on in, don't wait. It will be a kick in the gut no matter your level. Your conditioning will sort itself out in no time @ the boxing gym... Don't worry about having to set a good first impression or anything, either. Nobody's judging fresh meat. Just show up with a good work ethic and be a sponge for others' knowledge and you'll gain respect.
Mate, stop over thinking everything. It may turn out boxing isn't for you. You may think it looks fun, but you'll find out if you really want to go down that path after you're put on your **** during sparring. Go to some classes, wherever that may be, and see how it goes.
I'd say it depends if you are talented and can progress in the sport fast. If you have no talent, don't go for boxing. You'll get hurt bad, because those who are non-talented and started boxing at age 9, are much more better. So guys like Rocky Marciano, he started boxing in his earlys 20s but the guy was genetic freak and animal, so he had talent. If you are natural genetic freak and have heavy hands and speed, just go for it and stop asking questions if you are one of them.
What is? He didn't say he aspires to be a unified world champ or anything. Nobody has misled him with any of the advice given so far, in fact most of it has been laced with cautions to not set unrealistic expectations. :huh
Ok, so the local gym has a pretty good schedule that I can do. I tailored this schedule to what I can do based on work commitments. Mon: 7-8am 5-6pm 7-8pm Tues: Morning bike ride of at least 10 miles. 5-6pm 7-9pm Wed: 7-8am 5-6pm -7-8pm Thurs: Morning bike ride of at least 10 miles 5-6pm 7-9pm Fri: 7-8am 5-6pm Sat: 9-10am 11-12pm Bike ride of at least 5 miles. Sun: Off or go for a bike ride. These are the class descriptions: Box'N Burn: Burn 800+ calories with up to 8 trainers in each class. Box 'N Burn is an intense 60 minute class of real boxing technique, 1-on-1 mitt work, bag work , strength & conditioning , agility, plyometrics and much more! HIT Class: An hour long class of "High Intensity Training" with our fitness expert Moses Mcgilvery. Improve power, muscular endurance, cardiopulmonary fitness & functional range of motion through use of innovative & traditional training methods. The whole things is about $170 for a month. I wasn’t sure if this would be considered overtraining? I’m 6’0 and about 205 lbs but would like to get down to at least 190 lbs. I’ve already changed my diet.
Unfortunately that is about the standard going rate nowadays for any gym in or near a big city. :verysad That schedule is plenty for you to sink your teeth into for now to start. :good
I wasn't complaining about the price, especially since they don't do contracts and I can just stop after a month. I just wasn't sure if doing 3 classes a day would be overkill? I figure working out that often and continuing my current diet would at least help me reach my weight goal.
Ok, thanks for the advice. I'm aiming to start on the 15th of April. I have some stuff to take care of before I commit to a schedule like that, plus it would give me at least 2 weeks of high intensity cycling to get in much better shape. You're already one of my favorite users here IntentionalButt.
