I was going to the same gym for a year and a half but recently switched to a new gym because it is closer by. At the old gym, I was a regular and did sparring and everything. But here, I'm having a harder time blending in. I don't want to pay for lessons because it is too expensive but still want to improve my skills. Any advice?

Getting along with everyone and making it look like you have a clue what you're doing so you don't look like a n00b or something.

    A visual example -

Make friends with the more experienced guys. It's amazing what they will teach you. Start asking them questions and advice. Be repectful and complimentary and you should 'blend in'.

Guys tend to notice those who put in the time.

oh well iuno bout you guys but my gym is quite small and sort of nowhere. Only accept certain people and a certain amount. So our gym is a small ass basement.

I usually just talk after everyones done maybe thats just me but i dont like getting disturbed in the middle of my workout unless its a quick question or in between breaks. Asking questions to a person is flattery, always welcomed:D

I wish everything in life were explained this clearly.

And I agree, just talking to people and not putting out a hot-shot, know-it-all vibe usually gets people willing to talk to you quickly.

I presume you mean getting noticed as in the coaches putting you in sparring or taking you for padwork ?

If so then the longer you attend the more attention you will get. When a new guy arrives in a gym he has to go through a sort vetting process to make sure he genuinly is interest in improving his skills and not just there because he watched the big fight at the weekend or a documentary about Mike Tyson.
