im 20 years old 5'9 and 175 is that too high a weight class for me my style is a fast boxer and im in pretty good shape but being at 175 has me a little worried its not fat at all either any advice will be greatly appreciated
If you come up against a taller guy work inside with the shorter punches and remove his reach advantage. If he's the same height keep it long and straight and plenty of them. If he's a southpaw move to your left and throw plenty left, right jabs and lead hooks. Regards Bill
You'll be short for that weight most likely but as long as you are in shape and can keep your composure you'll be fine. Just stay calm and try not to let your nerves get the best of you.
Just stay relaxed and calm. It is ok to be nervous. Your opponent will be just as nervous. Just make that fear work in your favor. Just try to work on the things you have in the gym. Lots of guys just lose their mind in there and just start getting wild in their first bout. Keep your hands up and throw straight shots.Have good body language as well, meaning try to conceal your fatigue and stay on balance. All those things I mentioned influence the way judges score. As for your style , at 5'9 you will definitely be the smaller guy more often than not. So you will have to try and take your opponent's size away from him.You will need to get inside and keep him backing up. You said you like to box, you still can have a boxing style even if you are the shorter guy. You just have to incorpoate alot of head movement and when you try to get inside, punch your way inside. Making your opponent miss will fatigue him, and backing him up and getting inside will take his assets away .Good luck, and win or lose, still stick with it, because a loss is not a big deal, just a learning experience.
If I were you i'd drop a weight class. 175 is a little heavy for you. I'm 5'10" and only 147. on the other hand though Mike Tyson was 5'11" and 220 so maybe you're just built like a truck who knows.
50% fatigue will be caused by lack of composure and nerves. Remember this. Do not watch bouts before yours, listen to calm music or a good hip-hop (Roy Jones) or Rocky and be sure that you will show your best. This is really important. Start calm, find his weak points, keep your hands up. And good luck
