    Hi guys,

I've played football my whole life and also done a little fighting through a karate club I fought in during my teens. I was actually trained for a few weeks by a boxing champ for a tournament from Derby but I can't for the life of me remember who it was, anywho. I've had a pretty bad knee injury and although I'll fully recover I've had enough of football and the danger it presents to doing all sports (yes I know the irony of starting up boxing cause I don't wanna get hurt :p ) and staying active. All my muscle is in my legs and shoulders with hardly any in my arms, I've been out of commission for about 6 months with my knee and I'm currently waiting on an op for it to be properly fixed. I can still run/bike and swim but anything that requires twisting and stretching the knee is a killer (football ends me in minutes) so obviously I'll have to have this sorted before I start. My question is, am I too old to start (24) and actually compete (don't care at what level, I just dont wanna train only), especially with the fact I'll constantly have to be training my arms. My stamina is good but to be honest I've put on a lot of weight since getting hurt and I wanna get this off before I start too.

Also any advice on what/where I should look to start would be great. I live in the UK in the East Midland's. Thanks in advance for any advice you have.

You're easily young enough to start competing. Nate Campbell started when he was 24 and look where he ended up. It's up to you, if you want it enough and are talented enough you could go pro. Otherwise, you can defo start amatuer fights without question, even if you're not any good.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully after my knee op I'll be able to find a local club.

You are nowhere near too old, there's 11 more years of amateur competition ahead of you.
