Getting this 140 debate cleared up

All the threads about this division get convoluted you can't keep anything straight.
    So first off.
    1. Kotelnik is not a bum just because he lost to Khan, and is a tough challenge for a still growing Alexander. If DA dominates AK, then we'll have a bonified superstar, especially if he knocks him out.

    2. The reason Kotelnik is a tough challenge is because he is good. The fact that he lost to another top 140-pounder does not make him a chump.

    3. The reason the loss doesn't make AK a chump is because Khan is good. I know there are a lot of people on here who resent Khan's popularity given that he's been so protected and carefully moved along. None of that changes the fact that he has skills. He has a very suspect chin, hence the careful matchmaking, but there's no denying that he's an excellent boxer.

    4. Since I've addressed the Khan haters, the Khan fans also need to realize that Khan is the only one of the big four that has been pole-axed by a journeyman inside a minute. And hasn't faced a dangerous puncher since then. I give him all the props he deserves, which is that he is an excellent, fast-fisted boxer who can outfox most everyone in the division. But his fans need to understand that we don't like it that he holds all the cards when he has the least impressive resume of the big four. I know all about everyone he's beat, but what seems to be forgotten is his horrible, horrible loss. We understand that he does, in fact, hold all the cards, but don't tell us we have to like it, or that he deserves it.

    5. I don't know what to think about Bradley. Nothing he's ever done or said makes you think he's a Mayweather type. He's a family man with lots of kids, so I suspect his talk of money has a lot more practical value than a lot of the other guys that throw that out there. Still, he needs to be more pro-active in getting these deals done with the other top dogs out there.

    6. Maidana will be the one left out in the cold. Like Khan, he's got a whole country that adores him. He may not have the global appeal and his promo company may not be as popular and powerful in the northern hemisphere, but he is a big, big deal in Argentina. He's also got lots of incentive to play it safe and maintain his celebrity now that he is one. And I suspect that's what he is doing because he is the least skilled of them all. I have a hard time envisioning him beating any of the other three.

There's my rant on the division. Just thought I'd sum up my take all at once on all the different 140 arguments that have been taking place.

I have a feeling after a convincing victory over AK, Devon will have no problem in calling out Tim Bradley, who will probably except after his upcoming fight(does he have one still?)

dude, a reasonable and well thought out thread on the general forum...get that **** outta here.

I completely agree with pretty much all you said. I really hope that a little unofficial tournament takes place in the fall, beginning of next year. I think if alexander and bradley win their next fights that they will fight...hopefully khan/ maidana happens and then the final....the winner would be a high p4p player and possible superstar

Bradley isn't fighting Devon until one of them takes out Khan, Bradley has already stated he isn't going to let Khan get off easy by having Bradley take Devon out the game or vice versa.

Great post. Is Maidana really a big name in Argentina?

If you can read spanish, do a google search of chico-maidana-argentina and you'll find out how popular he is. Boxing is big in Argentina. They've produced more world champions than you'd think.

    Carlos Monzon
    Luis Firpo
    Victor Galindez
    Marcelo Dominguez
    Jorge Castro
    Pablo Chacon
    Carlos Baldomir

Those guys all come to mind. There may have been more. In fact I'm sure I'm forgetting someone obvious.
There's also been the infamous Oscar Bonavena, and the almost champion Juan Roldan, who is the only man to ever put Hagler on the mat.

    Good post.

140 is an exciting division with three young champions who all have records that are (a) pretty much equal at the moment and (b) very good for their level of experience.

Amazes me that so many people who claim to be boxing fans want to heap **** on one or other or all of them.
