Ramos last time out made his debut under the Golden Boy banner and managed to cause a stir with an impressive win. He is managed by Frank Espinoza who currently manages Super Bantamweight champion and Pound for Pound entrant Israel Vazquez. Hello Luis, welcome to 15rounds.com Anson Wainwright - Firstly youre 10-0(5) any news when and where and against whom you will be in action against next? Luis Ramos - Its going to hopefully be May or June. I dont know who itll be but Ill be ready. Well hopefully be back with Golden Boy. Anson Wainwright - Your touted as one of the top prospects in the Lightweight division, what can you tell us about yourself that we may not already know? Luis Ramos - Everybody considers me the top Lightweight prospect right now. I like to do other sports, I play Basketball, go Snowboarding, hang out with my friends. I do everything a typical kid does when hes not in the that ring and have a day off. I like to do different things & try new experiences. Anson Wainwright - Can you tell us about your amateur career, what titles did you win and what was your final record? Luis Ramos - My record was 120 fights with 16 loses the rest were all wins. In my amateur career everybody considered me an amateur standout. I was beating kids in the juniors then I beat the men in the seniors. The time eventually came for the Olympics and me and my partner Ronnie (Rios 3-0(1) Super Bantamweight and gym mate) we came up short. I went from 132 (Lightweight) to 125 (Featherweight) I hadnt been at that weight in a while but no excuses he beat me. So we decided to go pro. Ive brought my experience from the amateurs and its been helping me out. Anson Wainwright - Can you tell us some of the fighters who you fought in the amateurs? Luis Ramos - I fought Miguel Garcia, Michael Evans, Abraham Lopez, Archie Ray Marquez, Terrence Crawford & Danny Garcia. Anson Wainwright - How did you get into Boxing? Luis Ramos - One day when I was 8 years old I was walking with my parents. We walked into a park into the park and saw the TKO Centre. We went in and what got my attention was the speed bags, the noise, the people in the ring that caught my attention. I signed up and the next day I started going there training, throwing jabs. I didnt know anything I wasnt talented but became better and better. One day I started sparring, it was my first time and I got a little scarred and I got a beat down. I went home crying but I told my mom I want to go back. I kept getting better and better, I got the guy who beat me and beat him back. That gym is my family and my home and I am always welcome there. Anson Wainwright - Who is your Boxing hero & why? Luis Ramos - Right now I dont have one but I look up to Oscar De La Hoya hes a good business man. As a child I looked up to Julio Cesar Chavez, I used to watch videos of him. Anson Wainwright - It must help being in the same camp as The Super Bantamweight Champion Israel Vazquez, what can you tell us about the influence he has on you? Luis Ramos - Its a good influence. He started the same we started. Look at him now hes the champion of the world. Hes a terrific fighter. Actually he came down to our gym and we talked, he told us about everything how he started. He said it took him a long tie to get the world championship but he managed to do it beating good opponents. He said youve got to stayed focused to not get hurt and since then I think I have been more focused. Anson Wainwright - What are your goals that youd like to achieve in Boxing? Luis Ramos - To become a world champion, Id like to have all the Lightweight titles. Id like to later on become a pound for pound fighter. Then retire and live happily ever after and be a legend and people to say I changed the sport. Both Ronnie and I have that same goal to become a world champion and I think we will do it. Anson Wainwright - Can you tell us about some of your team mates at the Espinoza Boxing club? Luis Ramos - Ronnie came into the gym 4 years ago he did a lot of things in the amateurs he came up pretty quick. We help each other out. he learns and I learn. Its a good experience having him in our team. The other fighters I know them, some of them I fought in the amateurs some of them Ive sparred with. Anson Wainwright - Finally do you have any message for your fans? Luis Ramos - A lot of people have seen me fight. I want to get the chance to meet all my fans. I like to perform for my family and fans. Thank you and Im going to become a world champion for them. Thanks for your time Luis. Anson Wainwright 15rounds.com This content is protected
nice post. i have seen ramos fight twice at the marriot in ontario...this was very early in his career...his first five fights, something like that. he really looked sharp for such a young guy, polished, knew how to settle down and do the work, didn't freak out trying to look good. i hadn't heard anything about him in a while and i am glad to get the update and a bit of more personal, intimate portraiture. good stuff. i'll be keeping an eye on him.
