That might be my new thing, collecting famous boxing whisky and whiskey. How much do these usually go for?
Well mine was a Shepherd Neame Asda beer, used to be £1 at Asda, but they only have it at that price sporadically now and its usually on 3 for £4. Isle of Jura is the drink of choice tonight For those who know how does a quality bourbon compare to a single malt?
O/T quite a sad subject that Sullivan was an alcoholic, reformed himself becoming a speaker on abtaining from alcohol, yet died of alcohol related liver failure Anyway back to tips on drinking
Jura's amazing. It depends on your taste. As yo know i'm into both. Scotch is a different game overall. Some mass market bourbons/tn whiskeys are pisswater (beam, jack daniels, kentucky tavern, heaven hill). And some are actually quite good and well priced like Maker's Mark, Benchmark, Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey, etc. Price isn't necessarily a correlation with quality here, as something like BT retails for like 20-25 bucks here and i'd say it whips a lot of single malts in terms of quality. The premium bourbon market's interesting and amazing. Maker's 36 Blanton's Baker's Booker's Eagle Rare Four Roses Woodford Reserve Knob Creek Are all on the level of top tier single malts aged 10-18 years. Pricing varies all around. Being a UK resident i reckon you'd get a little ****ed on that, but that's the price you pay for being close to scotch. *******.
I thought he died of a heart attack. By the by, the liver is a damned resilient organ. If he was off the sauce for a couple decades, most the damage was probably repaired in that department, tho it could certainly have lingered in other organs and systems.
Your right Buffalo Trace and Maker's Markis are the only 1 I've come across, the price is a little more than a single malt like Jura/Aberlour/Glenfiddich (when they're on offer). Single Malts still work out expensive here partly because they're taxed heavily. The 3 I mentioned translate to around $30 a bottle if on offer or $40 when at full price For that reason for day to day drinking I stick to blends like Teachers (45% malt), Famous Grouse (highland park, The Macallan and with grained whisky), Black Grouse (famous grouse with smokey peated whiskies) My luxury dram of choice is the Glenfiddich 15year Solera - grab a bottle of that if you can, the best Malt I've sampled, allot better than their 18 too which is a little more pricey , I don't have my tasting notes but here's a review by a guy that looks a dead ringer of a mate that died of alcohol related liver failure, even have the same goatee [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miOYin2-p_g[/ame]
I'm not 100% but I've read from numerous sources it was liver ciarrosis, once the liver is scarred it doesn't repair itself
Once you are down to cirrhosis, it does not heal, no. But you need a large degree of cirrhosis if memory serves. My doctor told me he could take a boozer off the streets, get him clean for a month and he would never know from the enzyme tests that his liver was once shot. Cirrhosis is also related to malnutrition and, of course, hep. According to John L.'s obit on Feb 5, he died of a heart attack in his bathroom. He had been complaining of chest pains for a couple weeks, fainted and had his friend put him in his bathtub. 20 minutes later he was gone. Sounds like a heart attack, not turning yellow and lingering on in a hospital bed.
:think : I;ll think more on Questions 1, 2, 3, but I will give you an answer to question number 4. -- Not as much as what John L. and Young Griffo put away combined when they hit the town, which was most of the time.:yep
Are you not like 21? Not having meaning to have a go, but you're tragically hip. "Blah blah blah, famous brand bourbons are ****. Jack Daniels, Jim Beam....blah blah blah trendy statement"
