The general forum really wears me down sometimes. Constant Pacquiao threads. Constant Klitschko ATG threads. Constant Calzaghe is overated and only beaten bums threads. Someone said yesterday that Jason Litzau doesnt have a glass jaw and that Khan's chin was exagerated !!....I thought I'd seen it all.
I think he just scapes in. His record is very good, unbeaten in 46 fights is some achievement, but there are a large number of 'cans' on his resume. But he is an annoying twat and I don't like him. :good
It's a shame but Joe out of the ring comes across as a right twat HOF worthy though beyond any doubt, clear cut But quite a bitter man it seems
He should be Hall Of Fame bound. This is why the General Forum has gone down the toilet over the past couple of years.
So, two people have voted no but I can't see anyone giving a reasonable argument as to why he shouldn't be there.
I voted no, if we are talking IBHOF. It is basically an American popularity contest, and no one has heard of Calzaghe in the USA (mainstream). The non Americans who get in there are generally the popular foreigners in the States; the likes of McGuigan..... Remember a hall of fame is just that, it is about fame not greatness, thus a Scott LeDoux or Chuck Wepner should be in an American Hall of Fame before Calzaghe.
he is a dead cert for the hall. he has acheived what barely any fighters do, fight at world level for years and remain unbeaten, to say no would be out of some personal dislike agenda. the general boxing forum is seriously hard work, which is why i only post boxing in here
I voted yes. We shouldn't even be having this conversation. However to me the HOF is fairly irrelevant. Weather Calzaghe is an atg is a more interesting conversation.
Thats what I thought when I clicked into the GF thread, but then 20 muppets voted against Joe. We are up to nearly 10% (3 votes) in here; I'm a bit surprised at that.
I think Joe has made that impact in the states in the last few years; it began when he done a number on Lacy (their great hope in the division at that time), even though that was over here. His win over Kessler had a big build-up throughout the boxing world, and the fight itself was generally well received and widely commented on in American boxing circles (again, that fight was over here). The wins over Hopkins and Jones, though not entertaining spectacles in themselves, were the headline fights for big bills in the states and would have pushed Joe's profile up even more. We're not talking about Sven "I'm staying in Germany" Ottke here. IMO Calzaghe would have a high enough profile in the states to get him in the HOF with ease.
Calzaghe will get in the HOF once he retires but I doubt he can really put his names in with the genuine greats like he wants to.
